I agree with you Elizabeth.

Not just Bo Diddley but Little Richard,Bill Black's Combo,Chuck Berry,Fats Domino & many more were there before caucasions started "diggin'" R & B.
The unfortunate racism so strong in the 1950's at that time,made it almost 100% impossible for an African American artist to be played on the radio. (Good thing there were jukeboxes & records for the kids to buy!

Because the industry was as divided as the country,it took caucasion acts like Bill Haley,Buddy Holly,Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis to push R & R into the mainstream and change the way music was made and listened too. If not for them...who knows? No Beatles??
