I just checked and Florian has the updated list of tours for 2000. It's at the top of his home page. I would have to travel to Oregon to go to a concert or I guess Toronto. Is Gordon close to where you are?
I know how you feel, it does make you sad when you realize that you won't be able to hear any new music from that person and especially when they died young. Yes, Stan Rogers is Canadian and he died in Cincinatti (1983) where the plane had to make an emergency landing because of an electrical fire on board. I think 23 other passengers died as well. The songs he is most well known for are The Mary Ellen Carter (about a ship that sank but was raised up out of the water again) with the chorus "rise again, rise again" - if you heard it you might recognize it and "The Northwest Passage" which is done accupello (sp?). In one of the music guides it says that some people confuse him with Gordon Lightfoot. I don't, but maybe to the casual listener it could happen. They are similar in that they both do ballad type songs - which Stan seems to have done more of, similar type of guitar style and their voices have a similarity except Stan's was much lower. Gordon's voice is less rugged, more refined while Stan's is more rugged and has that maritime sound to it. If you like ballad type songs and a folkier sound you might want to listen to a few clips. I think CDNow has them. Let me know what you think.
Oh, I just remembered a story I read in a book about Stan Rogers to do with Gordon Lightfoot. Stan was in a recording studio just about to record one of his first demos and GL was in another studio down the hall doing some last things to one of his albums. His produced told GL to come down the hall and check out this new upcoming talent. Stan was rather surprised to see GL, someone he admired so much, watching him do the recording (can you imagine? ). It was a funny type song and GL thought it was funny and made a couple of jokes and they laughed about it. Such a small world, isn't it?
