With the aniversary of the sinking of the Fitzgerald next week, I thought I'd pass along a little piece of "trivia" told to me by a "local" who lives near WhiteFish Point. For those of you that have ever been to WhiteFish Point, this should really hit hime !

I was at the 25th anniversary Memorial Service back in 2000, and was told by this person that when the news of the Fitz sinking hit the air waves that night, this person drove through the storm from his home in Paradise, out to Whitefish Point so see if he would be of any help.

He told me, that when arrived at what is now the parking lot of the Lighthouse/Museum, the waves were crashing in past the light house and into where the paved parking lot is now !

For those not familiar with the area, the parking lot is probably 75-100 yards from the lake shore ! Simply unbelievable !
