Sean, I love my D18-GL. It has crisp higher end tones and a rich full lower end. I had a chance to talk to Gord shortly after I received it and he said it will "come in" with some time. After about 6 months it did exactly that. Also, Gord said to use the "Ball medium lights" on it and man do they make a difference. Actual strings are "Ernie Ball medium lights." Hope it works out for you and if you have any other questions let me know. This is my first post and I have followed this board for awhile and appreciate all the good information I have received.
