I would like to know how this special model actually sounds. I have many acoustics, and if you play three of the same model, each one is slightly different. Does anyone else find that to be true? I am buying a Martin, and while having Gord's model would be the ultimate trip, it still must sound special. I played a David Crosby model, basically the same appointments, and it sounded like crap! It looked good, though! Any opinions???

It sounds great! You must have tried a badly set up David Crosby. That is a nice model too. I have heard mine and Derek's, and both are wonderful (he plays his a lot more so it's undoubtedly more opened up, but mine sure sounds good). Derek has jammed with another friend who has one too, so I guess we can speak for three of them!
Several friends of mine bought one on resale, and none of them were disappointed. No guarantees, of course. I know of two people who were unhappy with the guitar; both had purchased them from a dealer. One has sold it; the other kept it and has perhaps solved his problems with better setup. But a guitar is a personal thing, and no guitar is perfect for everybody.
I can say that one very talented D-18 player who shall be nameless said the D-18GL was the best sounding D-18 he had ever played. He was playing mine. (But I'm sure there are vintage D-18s out there that sound even better ... if you can afford $25,000 or so).
