Whilst pondering Max's plea "who would like to trade with me" which I repeatedly read in a variety of places I recalled that I had pair of nice video files that I acquired some time ago thanks to a Newsgroup announcement by a Lightfoot/Kingston Trio fan by name of Rick Daly
I discovered that I had accidentally deleted one of the two so was overjoyed to rediscover Rick's site which those here
who do not visit the Newsgroup will no doubt be unaware of.It is:- http://www.folkusa.org
find the link
"Click here to go to directory"
and click on it top of the list is a section devoted to "Ian and Sylvia Reunion show from 1986, taped in Canada. For ease of
streaming, I have broken it up in to individual clips. All might not be posted yet, but bookmark the page and keep checking.
The clips are in Real Media and Windows Media format, resolution is fairly decent. For Windows Media (.wmv files) you'll have
to download to watch them. The Real Media files will play online. You might also want to make the Real Player screen smaller,
as it improves the picture". there then folows a listing of segments that are presumbly the complete show including two
real gems "Early Morning Rain" by Ian and Sylvia during which a third member joins in to sing his song with them. The next
is Gord's sweet solo version of "Knotty Pine". If you simply download these two wmv files which at just over 10MB each are
not huge you can then play them on your computer with Windows Media Player (or I suppose a Mac's Quicktime) but better still
if you have a CD burner and convert them to the video CD format (mpeg-1 for the cognoscenti among you) you can then burn a
VCD on a standard cheap CD-R blank that should then play through a full screen television set on most (if not all) standalone DVD players.(if you don't know how to do that essential conversion I am working on a simple tutorial to accompany a rehash of previously published instructions for capturing the various streaming files from the CBC Archives site et al. and as soon as I have found the time to complete those two tutorials (with full details of the necessary free software included of course) and uploaded them to my web site I will be back with a link.
Magic!
Further down on that directory page are several tasty Kingston Trio items including a KT medley on the andy williams show of Where Have All The Flowers Gone/Early Morning Rain (the WMV file is 11.7MB). the alternative and decidedly inferior Real Media file is only just over 3 MB but it would give you an idea of the proper thing (no use for a VCD though) And I spotted one video by John Stewart and the January 1967 CRT that I am now downloading but anticipate will be the same wmv file that was captured from the CBC Archives site
(no it is only a short useless clip)
I addition whilst on Rick's site's home page
scroll down just below a picture of his guitar and banjo collection and you will see
"Some Of My Favorite Web sites:"
followed by a link
Performers and Artists
clock it then scroll down noting links for Gordon Lightfoot (to Val's old GL site now unfortuneately reduced to a folk music
info page) and an up and coming artist called Cathy Cowette!
I hope some find this interesting
