Re: LIGHTFOOT by Nicholas Jennings - Sept.2017

Hi folks!

I haven't posted for awhile, but I've just finished Jennings' book and thought I'd write up a thought or two about it.

I don't want to post any "spoilers" so I'll just say I...

Re: Roanoke Tonight

Glad everybody had a good time in my old home town!

Couldn't get back there for this show.

My high school graduation was held in that theater way back in '72. Been to a few shows there and...

Re: PRESS RELASE - CD songlist and cover picture

Got mine from Amazon on the 17th.

On the whole I believe the mix is fine. As I said before, a live mix is nice to pick up on a few technique bits. I'm always interested how Gord can vary his 12...

Re: PRESS RELASE - CD songlist and cover picture

Looking forward to it.

As an instrumentalist, "live" recordings are always good to catch technique bits, guitar or vocal, with no studio "enhancements." Sitting around the living room with my 3...

Re: EMR cover - Meredith Lightfoot

Her voice is nice and strong.

Playing the guitar finger style and about twice as slow as Dad does on the 12-string is different.

The guitar playing is weak, but she'll get better. Finger style...

Johnnie,

Thanks for your thoughtfulness regarding Irene.

While it may be hard for anyone not living in the US, or New York for that matter, to understand, New York City isn't the entire United...

Re: Favorite Terry Clements licks?

I would love to know the story of the WOTEF recording sessions.

Terry is doing so much in that song. Of course the lead rifts, but there are so many little one or two note accent pieces that are...

Re: The Moment Your Realized....I'm A "Lighthead" !

I've probably told this one before, but it started when my younger sister bought IYCRMM album, not long after I got my first guitar.

I was a HS sophomore. My music interests ran to acoustic...

I really like the shot in Massey Hall that Char posted!

Re: Guitarists: which songs does/did he play with capo in 3rd position?

I've caught Gord in concert this year and last year. The capos didn't move. D-18 stayed at 2 and the Gibsons were at 2 and 3. Just as they are on the Live at Reno DVD.

While this discussion is...

Re: Guitarists: which songs does/did he play with capo in 3rd position?

JJ.

I don't know that he does it, but it isn't odd to drop a 12 string's tuning at all. Many 12 string players do it as a standard practice. In fact, I'd say that a 12 at concert pitch would be...

Re: Guitarists: which songs does/did he play with capo in 3rd position?

Of course this is assuming he's playing those third fret capo positions using the standard fingerings.

Don't forget, for those of you new to the guitar, that while capo position can change the key...

Re: I'd Do It Again.

I believe the song embraces the solitary life of the musician along the lines of "Homeward Bound," "Turn the Page" and others. It is more subtle in this one, but it is there.

JJ, I agree about...

Re: Virginia concerts are in DSR's future

Thanks Brink. "Selling" was a definite mistake on my part.

Wooden guitars are unfinished on the inside, so there's no varnish, lacquer, etc. to seal the wood. If there was, you wouldn't get the...

I posted this in DSR's Virginia thread, but thought I'd make a new thread too.

Yup, I did it again.

A new (to me) Martin D12-28.

She's a sweet 'un.

Re: Dream Street Rose

I wonder if the On the TV, bit might be akin to CCR's "Bad Moon on the Rise" which was often heard as "bathroom on the right."

Gord played the joke as "TV" because listeners were confusing it?

I watch good flat pickers often with awe. I never could do it very well.

The 12s have taught me more about strumming though and how to use a pick in ways that were certainly new to me. I use a...

Re: capos, transpose buttons and other aids

I use Shubb capos myself.

The thing I like about electronic tuners is that they end any tuning disagreements. Plus with 2 12 strings, they do save some time!

Re: Billings Montana Concert last night review.

Some guitar instrumentalists call a capo a "cheater bar."

That's OK. Singers have to do what they can, to play and sing at the same time.

Re: GL's Guitars

The D-18 shows up on the APPT cover. Must have been around that time frame.

I still can't figure out exactly what the black material covering the buckle rash on that guitar's back is.

Another New 12 String Mike

Nope, not changing my name, but I did get another new 12 string today.

After seeing the Richmond, VA show, I wanted a "D" tuning 12 string.

The new one is a Martin D12X1.

Very easy to play,...

Re: Seeing It Through His Lyrics

and a wave broke over the railin'"

For some reason, that line has always stuck with me. Almost feel the ship pitching and rolling.
