Re: Billboard: Gordon Lightfoot's 10 Best Songs: Critic's Picks
I agree, 'Lightfoot song with an asterisk', is a pretty apt way of describing it. Anything for Love has never really sounded like a true Lightfoot song to me. Foster's arrangements sound like an...

Re: Lightfoot worth
The info you saw was from a joke/parody site and shouldn't be taken seriously.
I remember reading something way back in 1977 or 1978 that Gordon was once quoted as saying, "I've made over five...

Re: Drunk and Inspired or CUI (Composing Under the Influence)
I saw him at Alumni Hall in London, Ontario in the fall of 1980. When he came out on stage, he definitely seemed well on the way to being half-cut, although he put on a pretty good performance.

Re: Seven Island Suite
'Sevene Island Suite' has always been one of my top-ten favourite Lightfoot songs. It's a powerful, thought-provoking song, and I think that people thinking critically about the world they live in is...

What a great interview. Have to agree, I've never seen Gord this relaxed, this animated in an interview. He's a true legend, and yet so humble and down to earth at the same time.

Re: Happy Canada Day
And sometime tomorrow, I'll be listening to "Hi'Way Songs", which I think is Gord's most 'Canadian' song.
In the following lyrics excerpt, you can see that Gord has a very high regard for his...

Gordon Lightfoot: The Patron Saint of the Wilderness
CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) has published a blog entry about Burton Cummings (of the Guess Who) as 'Patron Saint of the Mustache" and names other Canadian musicians and what they...

Re: Restless 1998 - good audio
What a great performance, and Gord delivers it in his characteristically understated style. I'd say the audio is easily as good as what you would find on the album version of this particular song.

Re: Gordon Lightfoot / A Lesson In Love ~ HOTEL~ 1988 !
I've never seen the Hotel series, and never got the chance (until now) to see the episode Lightfoot appeared in. So, needless to say, I was pretty happy to see these clips.
I agree, the script...

Even with the technology we have today, where virtually everybody and his dog can record music and distribute it far and wide, quality albums are still expensive and time-consuming things to produce....

Re: (potentially stupid) grammar question
The pronunciations of 'California' and 'Ontario' you noted are not the way Canadians pronounce the words. Gord deliberately mispronounced the words for stylistic reasons.
Hope that helps....

Re: (potentially stupid) grammar question
Actually what you're hearing is the Scottish influence in Canadian English.
In Canada's early days, Scots accounted for approximately 25% of the population. Today, amongst native English-speakers...

I know I'm coming to this party kinda late (really late, I guess!) but it was interesting seeing Gord's pedigree. Even more interesting was seeing that his great-great grandparents came from England,...
