Re: Gordon Lightfoot Biography
I liked the book, and so did moderator Char (if I remember correctly). It isn't a biography, and isn't meant to be, but I thought it was a good book. People knock it for not being something it isn't...

This is simply a performance - very well done - of the song Un Canadien Errant, which was introduced to English speaking audiences by ian & Sylvia on their debut album. The song is an old traditional...

That's actually very interesting. It's on Viking, a New Zealand record label. I was aware of Chateau, ABC Paramount and Decca (Canada, US, UK), but not of that one. AND I DON'T HAVE IT! Shucks. I...

Re: Horse names - Lightfoot inspired
Well JJ, "wishing well" is an expression anyone might use. It's certainly not unique to a song, and it's normal English. But "fortress strong"? We folks who speak English don't put the adjective...

Re: Horse names - Lightfoot inspired
There was a horse who raced in NY a few years ago (maybe 4 or 5 now) whose name was Fortress Strong. I have to assume that he was named for the lyric; nobody else would reverse the words. I bet him...

JJ, yes, the illustrator's name is Etienne Delessert. He is very well regarded. (You can Google him). I too was originally taken aback by the cover photo, but when I got the book and saw the name of...

First, I am always a bit sad when someone reacts like that to the illustrations in the book. I won't belabor the point, but let's just say they are very French. (The illustrator is a French speaking...

It's the same recording but a slightly different mix (strings added). The LP version was not later; it was released later (1966) but had been recorded in 1964.

COTS and ODR. They are the only case where he moves the capo on stage, and that's why they are the last 6 string tune. (He plays DQ with capo in the normal 2nd fret position).
