To be honest, I’d rather not know the background behind ‘Sundown’ or any other GL song.
When I listen, I like to put the song in my own context.
For instance ‘ She was something very special to me’ sums up my early time with the girl who eventually became my wife.
Some phrases are spot on.
Whether Gord experienced the same thing, I don’t know and don’t want to.
It’s personal to him...

Yeah, hearing that "Song for a Winter's Night" was composed during a thunderstorm in Cleveland sort of ruined the effect for me LOL
