Re: Glen campbell - r.i.p.
I'm a fan of Glen Campbell for his wonderful ballads and pop songs in the 1960's to 1980's. I saw him in concert at Sparks, Nevada on 3-28-1998. I still have 45's which have Gentle on my mind, Rhinestone Cowboy, Wichita Lineman, Country Boy, By the time I get to Phoenix, Arkansas.

This is an interesting song.

Very sad news.
Glen was here in Toronto during the sixties and he was a friend of Gord's. He wasn't very well known so Gord helped him out with gigs etc. He sure does add a sparkle to Gord's songs. I still have my 45 rpm record of "The Last Time" by Glen and it's always been a joy listening to his crystal clear voice coming through in that that very well arranged orchestral version. |

Glen seemed to be a genuine small town guy..much like Gordon. I loved his tv show and how much fun he always seemed to have...

Very true Char.
Being small town guys is probably what bonded them in those early days. I loved it when Glen and John Hartford connected and did their stuff on the show. When I think back, wouldn't it have been great if Gord had made an appearance on the show in those days? It was such a wonderful era that we were fortunate to have experienced. Sure wish it was all back. |
Re: Glen campbell - r.i.p.
I'm long overdue on this.
There's been so many passings and I've been busier than I ever was at the hotel, at my work. Glen Campbell will always mean a lot to me. Mainly because he did what he wanted to do in his music and despite some I talked to saying his music was ;C & W cheese' , I feel quite the opposite. His 60s songs are now classics and if that's not enough for people, Rhinestone Cowboy and other 70s hits cemented his place in country and just music in general. I also have to share this with you guys. Over a year and a half ago, I had a dream about Mr. Campbell. I got on a bus here in town and Glen was the driver! I asked him a weird question, "Hey Glen, where's your cowboy hat?" I don't believe he replied but he did suddenly have one on his head. (I think it's the one from the R.C. album cover. Anyhow, when I found out I was at the library. (Not my usual posting one, I actually don't live near that one anymore.) Seriously bummed then and still am. :( Rest In Peace Glen . |

I bought Glen’s Greatest Hits on my Honeymoon in London, back in 1971.
It’s still in my ‘regularly played’ albums section. A sad loss.. |
