Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line

In the General Discussion forum's Anaheim thread I replied to John in CT

Wayne's 2014 tour listing says

Whilst I was on Facebook I looked at Deb's Timeline and spotted a great youtube video displayed thereupon

I saw that Zimmerman character and also found from the comments that the video included a tribute the recently passed traveling Wilbury Roy Orbison whose guitar occupies an empty rocking chair as can be seen in the "still" screenshot I made and will attach (that is IF the attachment system works for me today)
sorry it told me to urinate somewhere else so I'll include it here

the first wilburys was one of the first albums i bought on vinyl when it came it. volume 3 would have been better if del shannon didnt kill himself, considering he was going to be the replacement for roy on the 2nd album. the first was classic from start to finish (and still is)

I also heard Carl Perkins name mentioned after Roy died. There is a video of George singing an impromptu 3 songs on YouTube, an audience member gave him a guitar, the last live performance he did. He does a Wilburys song from Vol. 3 that Dylan sang on the CD. Worth a look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjWTFlg2Er0

Trawl through to about 30 mins.

yeah, i always liked George's version from this video more than the album… there are a few cuts that i like on Vol 3… good for driving …there is a doc online of home movie footage of them meeting at George's and making the recordings

a Jeff Lynne documentary, at his own home, is wonderful as are the acoustic recordings on he and Richard Tandy doing old ELO classics… every room in this house is a recording studio with a different sound

I'm so glad Roy got Mystery Girl done before the sad day...love that LP

all this stuff is up there with Gord's when it comes to the "fun to play it" meter

Re: Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line

I was just into my 20s when the Wilburys album came out.

"End Of The Line" is definetley a favorite ,along with the attempted single "Handle With Care",which surprisingly missed the national U.S. Top 40 ,reaching only (ironically) #45. "End Of The Line" made it only to #69.

Charts aside, one of the funner tracks to listen to is "Last Night" but of course, the whole LP was and still is great. *0s radio should have been asheamed of themselves for not giving more play to these great artists.

the charts must be different in different countries!. Handle with care made #2 on the charts here. originally, it was meant to be a Harrison solo single, but Jeff lynne said its too good be a solo single, so the birth of the wilburys!

Re: Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line

It did perplex me back then Joveski.

Yes,the charts obviously worked very different here in the staes than other places. ,,,,but more so,different cultures, different tastes. (Different strokes, for different folks and so on... )

I'm not 100% on if it's "All" radio's fault,I'm sure record buyers just didn;t quite buy enough singles. Kind of makes me a bit ill to think in 1989 Milli Vanilli could get all those top 10 jits here & not even be a "legit" group but the Wilburys make fine music and get none?

I agree with Lynne. One man singing for the lyrics in question wouldn't have worked. After the line "handle me wwith ca-a-re" ,is "I'm so tired of being lonely (etc.) Coming from one guy,it kinda sounds like whining & self pity.
