The guys over at Third Base Politics have done an hilarious cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", covering the collapse of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed Fitzgerald.

I could picture an American political satire group, called "The Capitol Steps" (based in Washington, DC) doing a song parody similar to this on a multitude of topics. We've seen them many times, and they skewer everyone!

I'm sure if I was privy to the topical content this song covers, I'd have loved it. But as a mostly non-interested citizen of a Western State I could care less about Eddie Fitz and his political story. Gordon's original lyric, on the other hand, from the first time I really remember truly LISTENING to it back in around 1985, captivated me to no end.
I will say this was a pretty good musical cover of the song, but my cynical side has to wonder if the music came from one of the many Karaoke companies over the years. |
