Orillia Culture - Lightfoot Stories & Songs

Karen Hilfman Millson has interviewed Gordon Lightfoot publically four times over the past seven years and has had hours of one-on-one conversations with Lightfoot as he has reflected on his life. One thing is clear - Orillia played a significant role in the development of Lightfoot’s storytelling gift that honours the place and poetry of our lives. Prior to the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Band taking to the Chautauqua Stage at 2:30pm on Peter St in celebration of his music, Karen will share a few of her favourite stories from her time spent with Orillia’s folk legend.

Gordon Lightfoot is synonymous with culture in Orillia. The John Stinson Band will pay tribute to his hometown roots with a live performance on Peter St, just minutes away from where the legendary singer-songwriter-musician started his career.

4 cool things come to mind-

hanging out in the sacred alley (Gordon Lightfoot Avenue)

sharing laffs with Karen (didn't get to hear her stories)

john singing for an hour without any lyrics or cheat sheets

lastly, remember how the young fans were behind the stage on Fallon? well, I kept looking up and seeing different folks right behind us.. some real authentic Orillia characters... i mean, i guess that's what you would expect but they were just getting our stage monitor mix ...no lead or bass unless on the rebound from across the street ....maybe it sounded better than our mains:)

not sure if Bev was around for big hometown Day.. all are in TO now, eh?

i found a small image of a few of the locals that i spoke of... vintage fans
