Lightfoot on 6-12-2013 Colbert Report
The Colbert Report is one of my favorite shows along with The Daily Show. Last night Stephen had an hour long special celebrating Paul McCartney. During his opening dialog he comically reviewed Paul's career. He mentioned that the first album he bought with his own money was. . .here you expected him to name an early Beatle's album, but he went on to say, as a photo of the LP cover went up on the news screen. . ."Don Quixote by Gordon Lightfoot." He then sang the first line and then said "still, blew my mind." Guess he's also a Lighthead. The show was wonderful.

"That Beatles Side-project." LOL!! :) That's a good one.
I've always liked the Beatles and Paul McCartney but now that I know he digs Gordon Lightfoot....I like him even more. Appropriate I'd see that today,(I'm sure I've mentioend this before)I have 5 Paul Mccartney songs #1 on different birthdays : '69 - Get Back '70 - The Long And Winding Road '73 - My Love '76 - Silly Love Songs '82 - Ebony And Ivory (Just missed Band On The Run in June of 1974,as well as Sundown by Gordon.) |

And I thought that I couldn't love Stephen Colbert any more than I already do :)
He had James Taylor on his show once and they did a lovely duet of Carolina In My Mind. How cool would it be to see Gordon on The Colbert Report? |

The taping of tonight's Colbert Report has been cancelled due to the death last night of Stephen's mother :(

Stephen Colbert's first album
last night, stephen colbert had Paul McCartney on his show. That in itself was awesome, but what made it even better was while Colbert was introducing Paul, he talked about the first album that he ever bought with his own money. The set up was that the album was a Paul McCartney album, but what flashed up on the screen was Gordon Lightfoot's "Don Quixote!" Stephen even broke out in song, singing the first lines of Don Quixote. My husband was awestruck that such a famous tv personality would be a huge fan of my favorite singer! haha, he just stared at me with his mouth open. Anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning...

Has Stephen been back to work since his mothers death? They have probably run it every night because it was such a good show...Macca and Lightfoot!

you are probably right on that. That show has been on a couple of times since it first aired. It is so sad that he lost his mom that night. |
Re: Lightfoot on 6-12-2013 Colbert Report
Stephen's tribute to his mother was beautiful. He said, in part, "If you like my show, it's because of the people who work here, and I am privileged to be one of them. But if you like me, it's because of my mom."

Too funny - wonder how many Lightheads let the office know about how much a fan Stephen Colbert is, lol. Truly, if he can rattle off the lyrics to Don Quixote, he has spent some serious time listening.
