http://www.theage.com.au/entertainme...524-2k5n7.html http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertai...-1226652343495 I understand this forum has several fans of Northern Ireland's world-famous singer-songwriter-musician Van Morrison. I'm going to this sold-out concert at Melbourne's Palais Theatre on Saturday night. The main performer, Joe Camilleri, is well known throughout Australia as the frontman for bands Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons and later The Black Sorrows. The newspaper articles above recall the time he met Van Morrison at the Montreux Jazz Festival. |

Re: Van Morrison tribute concert 1Jun2013
I thoroughly enjoyed last night's concert and so did the sell-out crowd of 2,800 at the Palais Theatre. Joe Camilleri and guests Vince Jones and Vika Bull performed with an orchestra of 14, including a string quartet, a brass/woodwind trio and two back-up singers. At times Joe sounded quite like Van and the band very much like the Caledonian Soul Orchestra on Van's early-1970s live album "It's Too Late To Stop Now".
The songs, pretty much in order, were as follows: Inarticulate Speech Of The Heart Brown Eyed Girl Jackie Wilson Said Wavelength Dweller On The Threshold Cypress Avenue (including an excellent flute arrangement) The Way Young Lovers Do (sung by Vince Jones) Astral Weeks (Vince Jones) Stoned Me (Vince Jones) Into The Mystic (Vika Bull) You Gotta Make It Through The World (belted out by Vika Bull) Wild Night Caravan Gloria (Intermission) Domino Bright Side Of The Road Irish Heartbeat Moondance (Camilleri, Jones and Bull) I'll Be Your Lover Too (Vince Jones) (better arrangement than Van's original) Cleaning Windows (Vince Jones) Crazy Love (Vika Bull) Days Like This (Vika Bull) Have I Told You Lately Baby Please Don't Go Tupelo Honey (great version with Camilleri using falsetto voice) I've Been Working (Encore) Here Comes The Night. Char will note they played the first 5 songs from the "Moondance" album. (Pity you never saw Van live. I saw him in Melbourne in 1985 which was disappointing and in Belfast in 1990 which was much better.) The average audience member last night was a few years older than my 51 years, although we did see a boy aged about 10. The announcer said this show is going to tour Australia and will definitely return to the Palais at some point. I hope Joveski gets a chance to catch it. |

This group of performers took the "Here Comes The Night" show around Australia and returned to Melbourne's Palais Theatre on Nov29 for its final performance. Again, the venue was sold out. The song list was different and some songs had different arrangements this time.
Inarticulate Speech Of The Heart Bright Side Of The Road Jackie Wilson Said Warm Love Cypress Avenue Stoned Me Astral Weeks The Way Young Lovers Do Into The Mystic You Gotta Make It Through The World Irish Heartbeat Here Comes The Night Whenever God Shines His Light Wild Night (Intermission) Have I Told You Lately Caravan You Make Me Feel So Free Cleaning Windows Ballerina I'll Be Your Lover Too Days Like This Crazy Love Precious Time Moondance Tupelo Honey Brown Eyed Girl Baby Please Don't Go (Encores) Gloria Here Comes The Night (different arrangement from earlier in this concert). |

Joveski,
Hoping your ankle recovers fast. With your recent spell in hospital, you've really been in the wars! We were at Friday's concert with an old schoolmate now based in London. I was jealous as hell, because he recently attended Van Morrison's concert at the Royal Albert Hall. But despite seeing the real thing, he was very impressed with the Camilleri-Jones-Bull tribute. Also at our concert was a former workmate who recently saw Vika Bull performing "At Last: The Etta James Story" and said it was excellent. http://media.theage.com.au/entertain...t-3976848.html http://atlasttheettajamesstory.com.au/ |
