Got my copy! Shadows!
I finally got a copy of 'Shadows'! I have contacted Rhino Records and asked them to re-release it. Hopefully they will.

Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
The song Shadows is one of my favorites. I could never figure out why it wasn't a big hit.

When talking with Rick one day, I mentioned how I found it sealed and new in a discount dollar bin, and he said when they made that album, they thought it was going to be a big seller, but it wasn't, and Gord and the guys were quite disapointed. I loved it too, and bought some of those dollar copys for my friends. |
Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
Hey Scraphappy (love the name by the way),did you get a CD or a vinyl copy?
If CD great,if vinyl even better. (With that album any format is good). :) I got my vinyl copy 10 years ago this past December, never get tired of it. |
Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
Long been a favorite album of mine - I remember hearing "I'll Do Anything" over the radio while buying a sandwhich at a 7-11 in March 1982. I went out and got the record the next day - on vinyl in those days.....

I've probably said it before, but I actually prefer SALUTE slightly over SHADOWS. Not that either of them is bad...! It's been years now since we Lightheads were lamenting the "final four" albums not having ever being released on CD (ODR, DSR, SALUTE, SHADOWS) and now... such complaints have come around again, although I don't know how many titles it is currently. At least they did bother to do (a pretty decent) job of digital remastering those records when they did come out. -Andy |

"Salute" has some good music on there. "Tattoo", "Knotty Pine", and "Whispers of The North" are my favorites. It seems to me that in his 80's albums there was, behind all the production, some very good songs. That to me tended to come through in his live performances where the arrangements were significantly pared down, and the strength of the songs would stand on their own. In 1987 in a Calgary matinee at the Jubillee Auditorium, Lightfoot described Salute as "an attempt....". Got a few chuckles from the crowd. Sales figures notwithstanding, I think Salute has some great material. |
Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
When my friend Jenny and I saw Gordon a few years ago in Manitowoc WI, Jenny asked him if he would ever play Whispers of the North in concert. He said, "We never play that anymore!"
Then he tilted his head a little and said, "That was a good album, though." |
Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
I agree with that Salute was as good an album as Shadows, and I think they stand very high on Gordons best albums list. It is always a case with his songs, that there are some songs on each album that have special meaning and stand out musicly for all of us.

Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
'Shadows' is in my top 5 favorite Gord albums.
'Salute' is on top for me - it's the first thing I ever had Gord sign for me. Kelly Davis |
Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
i will give a fresh listen ... this has turned into a cool Shadows/Salute thread

Re: Got my copy! Shadows!
I prefer Shadows, while Salute has some great stuff(Tattoo, Biscuit City, Whispers of the North and a couple others) I consider Shadows to be a filled with more memorable songs. In fact the only song on shadows I really don't care for is Blackberry Wine.
Kelly: PM me your e-mail address. I have some photos of you from the Peoria Concert last year, With Barry, with our wives, and one of you and Loretta with Carter |
