Beachhouse on a pole in south-east Australia

This house at Fairhaven on the Great Ocean Road (1-2 hours south-west of Melbourne) is on top of a concrete pylon and well out from the cliff. As the attached video shows, it was one of the few Fairhaven houses to survive the Ash Wednesday bushfire on 16Feb1983. |

Nice one David
http://images.theage.com.au/2013/01/...on-620x349.jpg It must be something in the local water or milk!! In 2007 I was most struck by a similarly unlikely bovine "sculpture" seen on the route of the circular tram tour from Flinders Street If it's not one thing it's the udder!! http://www.aroundtheregion.com/wp-co...ree_100663.jpg |

I saw that house on a TV show about amazing homes several years ago! -awesome views- Love the walkway to it. Too bad it's coming down.

John, I vaguely recall seeing that upside-down cow in Melbourne's new Docklands area.
Charlene, the original beachhouse is being removed, but the pole and walkway are remaining and a more modern house will be built on it. I spent this week on the Great Ocean Road and the rebuilding of the pole house was the talk of the coast. |
