Re: Charles Durning and Jack Klugman
two very funny men who were also wonderful dramatic actors. It's wonderful we can still enjoy them thru their movies etc. A sad time for their families tho.
Quite a story: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/26/mo...pagewanted=all |
Re: Charles Durning and Jack Klugman
I know that in the case of Jack Klugman,I was definetly sad to hear about him.
It was so great reading a few months ago about him turning 90,I was certain he'd go on. I first saw Jack (as possibly manhy my age did) on The Odd Couple. Not when it was on ABC,I was too young, but in 1980/1981 when KPHO 5 here in Phoenix, would show reruns at 11pm. I saw them in summer of '80 and then again in 1981 and on & off through the decade. (My favorite was "Sleepwalker",where he does so and hits Felix with a roled up newspaper. He and Tony Randall earned their Emmy's to be sure. I noticed the co-incidence of him passing away on Christmas Eve. He had played Scrooge in a season 1 Christmas show. Just this past summer,I watched all 5 Seasons on DVD,despite having seen them all in re-runs. I discoverd his other works over the years. His great guest roles on variosu Tv shows, especially a trumpet player on The Twilight Zone. In 12 Angry,Quicy M.E. and I even seen his short lived sitcom "You Again?" with a very young John Stamos in the early 80s. I know Chalres Durning and some of his work,I wish i could say I was as familiar with his,as i am Jack Klugman's. ...but RIP to these two great men. Great actors both. |

This timeline mentions that Jack Klugman attended the famous Melbourne Cup horse race in 1985. I remember watching him interviewed live on TV at the Melbourne Cup, I think later than 1985, and he was just as down-to-earth as in "The Odd Couple". And as the (pre-Cup) race behind him finished, he grinned at the camera and revealed "I had money on that horse!" |
