Don't think Gord will ever go digital
Fascinating article/interview with Paul McCartney. Hewlett Packard is digitizing his entire solo stuff in the cloud:

Re: Don't think Gord will ever go digital
Along with putting these into digital form, does this mean hard to find songs like
"Giver Ireland Back To The Irish,Girls School & others will finally be placed on CD as well here in the U.S. ? I think Gordon should consider doing this as well. McCarteny comments on younger generations discovering his music in an easier fashion,so I think it would benefit Gordon too. |
Re: Don't think Gord will ever go digital
I disagree. IMHO, once Gord retires and if his health is ok, I predict he'll eventually do an overview of his recorded career and will seek to cement his legacy. IF, IF he has good, up to date people around him, he may seek the best way to care for that legacy. If he's interested, he may take time to learn about the current delivery systems and take a cue from people who appear to know what they're doing, a fine example is Mr. McCartney.
Right now, that's the furthest thing from his mind, because he's busy touring and practicing. But once that's done and that's behind him, he can turn his attention to what he's going to leave behind. If not, look for his children to keep the legacy alive and make some proper decisions. I hope I'm correct. |

wasnt Dream street rose one of the first albums ever recorded in digital format?

Re: Don't think Gord will ever go digital
Yes it was! And the analog releases benefitted from it - the DSR album has some very good sound - at least my LP copies did...
Thanks for this thread, and the link to the McCartney stuff - I enjoyed reading about it. I somehow don't think Gord will ever really want to go back like Sir Paul has - it's common knowledge that he's never really liked listening to his old work. Songbook was a very rare exception. Still, with all the stories of all the various soundboard recordings of concerts that GL has accumulated over the years, I'd love it if someday a "Best of Gordon Lightfoot - Live" came out - featuring the best, definative, and noteworthy live performances throughout his career - featuring at least a couple of songs from each album as they were played around the time those albums came out. I think Gord might have to get zapped with a live cattle prod before he would do the work himself though. But if someone associated with him did it, with GL providing the final approval, then maybe it would be possible... -Andy |
