Amazing Tony G
i am away from my computer for a few days and omitted to check sugarmegs then you unearth yet another gem
I am amazed at the number of extra bootlegs that keep turning up. following the Seattle 1974 and San francisco 1983 items.
OK Tony posted whilst I was away drafting this so please bear with me a tad
the full setlist of the Carnegie hall concert is provided at
http://tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/a...ieHallNYC.html
which reads:-
Gordon Lightfoot : The Lostbrook Tape Series - Volume 35
Lets take a break from sticky-floored venues and cavernous smoke-filled arenas and enjoy the sophisticated atmosphere and
acoustics of Carnegie Hall. Wear some nice clothing and join
us in Box 40 of the second tier, slightly left of center. If
you like the concert, don’t forget to "rattle your jewelry."

Moreover "heavenbound" is included amongst a number of Lightfoot copyrighted works on his odd web page
http://www.faqs.org/copyright/cold-h...ghtfoot-arr-2/
and at
http://www.lightfoot.ca/hvnbound.htm
Wayne produces the lyrics and chords proving that this is no doubt one of many extra items he keeps close go his chest
i suspect that it remains unreleased because it sounds to me (and possibly Gordon) to be too heavily redolent of The Gypsy.
During the recording i noted Gord's explanation of Dream Street Rose
and he mentioned Dave Mason as being in the audience
as sell as the aforementioned sugarmegs listing a suitable google found
mp3s on guitars101:-
http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f90...ny-117883.html
with a link asTony posted to:-
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9CPTH5VR
From that rapidshare link you can download a file cryptically and cunningly named GLVCHNY79.rar where the rar file extension signifies an archived compressed file in the rar format that is a superior alternative to the familiar and ubiquitous zip format and therefore requires "unrarring"
Those of you who have been paying attention to my sometimes lengthy corfid postings instead of laughing your socks off just might recall that in an earlier thread at
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread...highlight=jzip
in which I produced what I feel is a satisfasctory mini tutorial covering both rapidshare and a great freeware program for unrarring called JZip
Please see my posting in that thread at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.p...46&postcount=2
reading that again I consider that it is full of useful guidelines and explanation in reasonably non geek language.I actually said
"RAR stands for Roshal ARchive"
the icing on the cake is my wholehearted endorsement of the Australian freeware burning program Express Burn that find I use for all of my disc burning activities now due to its simple easy to use interface and it loads and opens noticeably quicker than the equivalents from both Roxio and Nero, plus the Main Selling Point as I explained is the ease with which a Gapless (continuous) concert CD can be set up

Now where were we? Ah yes unrarring using JZip... Having done so (into a new folder logically named GLCHNY79) you will have a full set of 24 named mp3s (although the unreleased "heavenbound" has the originator's incorrect guess at a title (It Ain't Easy)) plus some quite serviceable and useful CD jewel case artwork that I will return to display later.
using the free mediaonfo program from:-
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Windows
reveals that the original all in one 28.5MB wma format file as hosted for continuous streaming by sugarmegs as linked by Tony was sampled at the usual desultory bitrate of only 40KBPS which for quick downloading and non critical
listening is surprisingly good but is hardly condusive to making a quality CD from
However the rapidshare mp3 set was sampled at a far more repectable and useful 320 KBPS which happens to be the usual upper limit for mp3 sampling and despite being a "lossy" compression should transfer to a CD that will to most intents and purposes be indistinguishable from the original source
In addition there is quite likely a comparable set of lossless FLAC files available as a larger torrent but the two main listing sites currently have issues (for me anyway)

OK here are the three included items of CD jewel case artwork
(I could not attach them to my previous posting because two are larger than the maximum attachment limit sorry RM)

Not sure if iPad is similar to iPhone in that it won't run Flash (although I wouldn't have thought this download or streaming of audio would call for it. ) Anyhow, I had to go to the Mac to listen and yes, Safari was my browser. I am still running Leopard.

The family has a first generation iPad. Unlimited multimedia fun and educational apps for the kid. Ok, I'm off topic. How uncharacteristic. Good luck.

Great stuff. I love how GL used to play new, unreleased tunes live before the records came out. I remember once he introduced "Heaven Help the Devil" as "Thieves of the Night", which I was sure would be the name of the record!

Yes exactly Gibson

I caught him in May 1981 at the Royal Albert Hall in London and he actually said words to the effect that "this next tune goes by the unlikely title of "Heaven Help The Devil May He Have A few Unpleasant Memories"
And in a similar vein to your title guess at Montreal's Place Des Arts
on May 10 1968 he sang another unreleased song that in my ignorance I recorded on my own hand written setlist on the program (that I still have somewhere):-
"19 "diddledidum,diddledidee"
Well that is what I wrote down
Bear in mind that this concert was before "The Gipsy" was recorded in September 1968 for that year's "Back Here on Earth" album "

Did you notice some lyrical changes in "Forgive Me Lord" in this performance? At least from the version that appears in the Songbook Collection.
