Busting out in New Bedford - concert review and setlist

I hope to get to computer either late tonight, or more likely tomorrow afternoon, to post about one of the most "unique" concerts of the 105 I've been to! Too hard to do on an iPhone.

Can you do a part two also

...where you review or at least list your fave Apps?:)

This thing has me composing almost normal sentences (its very annoying to read them back because thats not how i speak) even though I'm making more typos than usual. I'm hoping to master the Dragon dictation app and never have to hunt and peck again!

I digress....ummm, hope yas adda good time ( that's better)

Sooo, the concert started out just like any other. Carter seems to blend right in, and is obviously emotionally invested in the music. I'll write more about that when I am home and type up some notes on the Keene concert. Forgive typos, I only have a brief time here before I have to hit the road.
Gord started off with:
Sweet Gunivere
Cotton Jenney
14 Karat Gold
Never Too Close
In My Fashion (crowd loved that one)
A Painter Passing Through
Let it Ride - he had a false start here, stopped and started again.
Christian Island
Shadows
Beautiful - Carter is doing something different here which I really like
Carefree Highway
Hangdog Hotel Room
Ribbon of Darkness
Sundown
Watchman's Gone - after this he announced that they had a new lead guitar player as Terry is no longer with us. No other explaination
Alberta Bound - Great solos by Carter and Mike, very well synched considering it was only the 10th concert for them together

Intermission

The first set seemed longer than most, 17 songs, but then I rarely count them. Everything was going well. I should mention now that there was a bar in the theater......
2nd set starts, and Gord is doing Wreck. The crowd is laughing, and I can't figure it out. I look at the people next to me and they can't tell why either. Some of the band is glaring out towards the audience, but I was 9 rows back and couldn't tell what was going on. I got filled in later about it. During Wreck, a woman came down to the front of the stage and was waving a piece of paper for Gord to sign. He ignored her, security was no where to be found, so she sort of hunched down, wriggled around, and then took off and threw her bra on the stage!
Remember, we are all of a certain age, and this was not a pretty lacey one, but one of those white industrial strength ones!!! Gord is still up there trying to tell us how 29 men died! He gets through the song, and picks up the bra. He holds it, looks at it, starts laughing, and as he puts it down, says "you can claim it after the show!" As he puts it down on one of the moniters, he does a final little drop and backs away, like he's scared of it. I was dying!! Now I never take pictures during a show, but had just taken a couple without flash to see if I could from that far back, and I still had my camera in my hand. I have a couple of slightly blurry ones that hopefully I'll be able to post.
Back to the woman....She is still down there, waving her paper. Gord has been ignoring her and goes right into
Ringneck Loon
Don Quiote - She's still there
Clouds of Lonliness - written for my second old lady right before she left me
Let it Ride - I'm thinking, oh good this is Ricks solo, wait, does he have two solos now cause i think I've already heard him do one. I check my notes, nope, they did do this first half!
If Children Had WIngs
IYCRMM - crowd loved it

Now the woman has been down there the whole time. She gets tired of being ignored, says "oh f**k it" and vaults herself onto the stage! This is the first I've seen of her. The crowd starts booing, she turns to hush them up, and marches up to Gord to have him sign her paper. He does, everyone is looking for security, and then she starts looking at the band like she wants to get their autographs too! She turns to Carter (I found out later she says) "that's my bra" He says "You better take it then" She says "you want it?" "No thanks". She grabs the bra, stuffs it into her back pocket, then finally jumps off the stage. Security finally arrived, and started chasing her around the perimeter of the theater! It was like a bad silent movie at that point!
I've never seen anything like this, hope that someone caught it on video!!
Gord starts again,
Restless - flawless! Don't know how one goes from that chaos on stage to delivering an ethereal song like that so well.
Baby Step Back - says it's a walking song, and starts singing it sofly while doing a little walk. Gord does start laughing during one of the versus after he sang Baby step back...maybe he should have sung that when she was on stage?
Early Morning Rain

Encore
Rainy Day People
Waiting for You

What a night!!! The audience was far rowdier in the second half, there was a couple of women about 4th row that were really whooping it up the last three songs. Naturally security was on them! It was just wild.
I will try to post my pics before I leave for the Torrington show, but it may have to wait.
Onward!!!

Re: New Bedford

After your call last night at 11 I couldn't sleep just thinking how crazy that whole bra on the stage thing was..even 'back in the day' i don't imagine that happening at a Lightfoot concert!
lol
I finally fell into a fitful sleep around 1 a.m.
lol
Get that pic loaded..

so bras and bars don't mix?

wow, WHAT a review that was, JR... millions are awaiting a youtube upload! thx:)

Re: New Bedford

oh gawd - those are pics I never thought I'd see -
The Man onstage holding the bra of a 'supporter' in need of support..she should be ashamed of herself. Not for making an arse of herself but for embarrassing Gordon and putting such a respectful man in that position.
No respect at all for him or the audience...
Thank gawd he's got more class than she had.
Hope her excuse is that she had too much to drink.
Funny but sad too.

WHAT a great review!!!!!!!!!! Wish I was there.
Thanks for the setlist too.
I think to would have been great funny for Gord to sign her bra instead of a peice of paper.
And return it to her while sayin.... "now put this back where they belong",
while launching into..........If it Should Please you.

Newsflash...........Gord is now doing the girls gone wild show!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks and hope to see you soon!
Tim

I was just happy that no one offered to do the Cinderella thing and make her prove it was hers.....

I'm leaving for Torrington soon, gotta rummage through my lingerie to see what I can spare......

Re: New Bedford

Someone put a video of Gord doing the Wreck last night, on You Tube. At around the 1:52 mark, you can see the woman throwing her bra on stage. You can also hear the audience laughing, etc, which was very confusing when you couldn't see that. I wish it had continued a bit longer when Gord picked it up!

Remember, it's Gordon!
Throw him something from the Victoria Secrets-Approaching Lavender collection.
He deserves the best, but always leave him wanting for more!

Holy moly that's a first. Bless his heart, he is the consummate professional. But I'll bet he had more than a few tart words for the venue's security people. If she had been unhinged instead of (presumably) drunk it could have been so not funny. Depressing the lack of civility these days.

Well...on the other hand (or whatever), it must be nice to be a 72 year old man and STILL have women throwing their unmentionables at you :)

Re: New Bedford

Hey Jenney,

I am SO sick and tired of the same old, boring, vanilla Gordon Lightfoot concert reviews . . . can’t something different happen just once???

Seriously, so many thoughts, so little time . . .

Obviously, there should have been enough security to get this idiot out of the way and never let her get on the stage. That was absolutely the worst song/least respectful time for this to happen. Too bad they don’t to Go Go Round anymore!

It would have been really interesting to see how he would have handled this in the old days, when he was much more surly about distractions. I remember some really unhappy reactions to fans just clapping along. It is great that they all kept their poise, and apparently handled a really embarrassing situation with some sense of humor.

If I read your review correctly, you may have witnessed another first . . . one song (Let It Ride) being started three different times in one show.

It would have been so appropriate for them to break into Baby Step Back as this woman was being carted off.

Finally some great descriptions; you used a couple of phrases I’ve never heard for a Lightfoot concert review, and frankly would be happy not to hear again: 1)”industrial strength” bra; and 2)”like a bad silent movie”. But very vivid . . . I’m sure we could all close our eyes and imagine the spectacle.

Thanks for the great review.

Brian

Re: New Bedford

You're so right Brian

This would have been pathetic (ok, some humor at first) at any point but to happen during the Wreck is like someone passing loud wind as they lowered the coffin at a funeral. I feel sorry for those maybe hearing it for the first time and hoping to shut their eyes and let Gord take them on a solemn voyage as a memorial

and I have a third phrase to add that I thought was vivid: describing Carter as emotionally invested

well said

I think some may just think this is another vanilla (more like Rocky Road) flavored review with the site name as the subject

Char, how about changing the Subject heading to something that will ensure that no members or newbies unintentionally bypass it

How about:

Lightfoot Busted in..........?

Re: New Bedford

I agree with Brian - Industrial Strength Bra....LOL I can imagine Gord singing and thinking OMG look at the size of that - just laying there. What a pro to be able to keep on singing. I think it is hilarious. A show you will probably never see again. Well they guys have something to laugh about now, Carter probably is wondering what happened to the "sedate" Lightfoot band he joined. Something for him to write home to Mom about. :)
Thanks Jenney - very entertaining and made my day!

Re: Busting out in New Bedford - concert review and setlist

There's a pure and simple explanation for the woman (definitely not a lady) exploits....

She got on the wrong bus....
She meant to go to the Tom Jones Concert

It's Not Unsusaul

But at a Lightfoot Concert it's a regretable first

Re: Busting out in New Bedford - concert review and setlist

from gleason dude who posted the YouTube video:

gleasondude has replied to your comment on Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot:

@AuburnAnnie1 That woman was two seats behind me. She kept yelling out things like "That felt good!" After she threw her bra on the stage, she sat back down and actually said she wanted to take her panties off and throw them up there instead. I saw her headed up there the second time and I told my uncle to start recording because I knew she was going to do something nutty. That vid will be up soon, I promise you.
