I read that Rolling Stone article years ago and from what I can remember, the author did seem to go on about his drinking and his weight.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that perhaps his feelings were hurt by it. Professional criticism goes with the territory; personal attacks are a different kettle of bouillabaisse.

The remarks about Rolling Stone in the article reminded me of that Maclean's magazine article in 1977 or 78 about his weight and his drinking. I remember how disappointed I felt...This was a good read here with some good rare photos.....
