Great list. All great songs. I especially like "Beautiful," "If Children Had Wings," and "Saturday Clothes." I am not really sure what a ballad is either, but I would add "The Last Time I Saw Her" to this list. It was the first Lightfoot song I ever heard and from that there was no turning back. I was hooked for life!

Re: All the ballads in one go

fine line in the categorization. imo....years aback i made comp CDs of Lightfoot tunes ranking them by bpm (beats per minute), not that that's a sole determining factor...some for relax. some for driving. none for exercising to:)

i tried to make a CD for my teen nephew of Gord's 'coolest' groovin stuff...stuff he could find a groove to amd hippity hop walk with the ipod

part b)
what would be 20 'cool' tunes members recommend to win over an urban teen?

ps)
We've Gotta Stay Together very balladish...depends on stufio production too, imo

The Last Time I Saw Her Face...yes I think thats in
Did he write that?

If You Need Me... yes ..in

Sorry for the omissions.

Flip side 20 tunes at: (good thought jj)
- a faster than ballad rate.
- you haven' heard 1000 times in the last 10 years
- might appeal to someone under 35

For me..
Black Day In July
I'm Not Sayin
For lov'in Me
Steel Rail Blues
Sundown (its out..overplayed)
The Way I Feel (drums version)
Don't Beat Me Down
Early Morning Rain ( might be over played)

back to work ..i'll think of some more later

lol, well he lit up (well his hoodie was movin to the groove anyhow:cool:)) when he heard Marie Christine and Don't Beat Me Down so I thought I could try expand and get a full CD together...a teen female might call for a different mix, I really have no clue what goes on inside those minds)

well, I've got some here:

Cobwebs & Dust
That Same Old Obsession
Ode To Big Blue
Clouds Of Loneliness
Leaves of Grass
Stone Cold Sober
Sometimes I Wish
Poor Little Allison...borderline
Cabaret...iffy...and if CRT is a Trilogy, i guess this is a Duology
The Way I Feel
Protocol
Never Say Trust Me
You'll Still Be Needing Me

and BALLAD of Yarmouth Castle probably makes the cut, lol

i don't think of Miguel as a ballad but as I wiki-google around for the 'ballad' definition, I am just getting more confused...pretty wishy washy guideline

lastly, I was gonna say Ode to Big Blue, but I suppose that's an "ode", eh? ;)

good luck

the teens on my swim team love canary yellow canoe. Not a ballad, for sure, but likeable to the teens. I played it really loudly at a swim meet and it ended up on some of their Ipods!

RM, you are too much!

Seriously though, jj, two favorites of my teenage boys are Drifters and Is There Anyone Home. I was surprised at the latter - that he picked it out of so many great ones on Sundown. My kids are familiar with all the songs and are fans whether they admit it to their friends or not.

Woah-oh!

Looks like Hangdog's takin' over my list making duties! LOL! :>D

Actually,I could sit through all of Gord's ballads as easy as the fast ones.

I think a Box set of those ballads would be awesome also, butit would "have to"
include "My Love For You" from Harry Tracy.
