Jenney 10-02-2010 09:01 PM

Burlington

It's intermission, and Susan, John and I are still in shock!
The show opened with Sweet Gunivere!
A first for all of us.

Re: Burlington

As Jenney has already reported the start of the concert was surreal because instead of the usual opening song detailing what the mermaid said to the tuna fish or Gord asking if his old girlfriend had mentioned him or a description of a house by a mill I was suddenly aware that Gord was singing a song possibly about the legendary queen consort of the fabled King Arthur of Wessex UK
so the setlist for October the 2nd at the Flynn Theater in Burlington was
1 Sweet Guinevere
2.Cotton Jenny
3.14 karat Gold
4.Never Too Close
5.In My Fashion
6.A Painter Passing Through
7. Medley Spanish Moss/Shadows
8.Beautiful
sung for "For Alice of Bob and Alice who is here"
then introductions of "the Lads"
and which reminded Gord of the time he was inducted into the Society of Turtles in Liverpool England for a reason I cannot now recall
9. Carefree Highway
Hangdog Hotel Room
10 medley Ribbon Of Darkness/Sundown
11 The Watchman's Gone
12 Alberta Bound
Intermission
1 The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
2.Ring Neck Loon
3. Don Quixote
4.Clouds Of Loneliness
5.Let It Ride
6.Minstrel Of The Dawn
7.If You Could Read My Mind
8.Restless
9. Baby Step Back
10. Early Morning Rain
11. Song For A Winter's Night
Encore
12 Blackberry Wine

Almost 73 and Gord is still full of surprises. That would have been "sweet" to hear live...

Well obviously I am a silly moo
Of course the song has absolutely nothing to do with Queen Guinevere but everything to do with the daughter of a mother of a miner's chid., a miner from Pittsburg PA no less so no doubt Gord will get the band to accompany him again on this in Wilkes Barre PA on Tuesday

Re: Burlington

I was thinkng that this might be one of those songs never previously performed live but consulting Jimbo's definitive list at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.p...5&postcount=22
he shows that SG is not included so presumably JJ in checking Wayne's setlists found a concert in which SG was aired do you recall or can you refind when that was James??

Re: Burlington

Jenney: Great news about "Sweet Guinevere" and that Gord is using some rare songs- keeps the fans talking !! With about 45 concerts under my belt over 32 years, I have never heard him play it. Thanks for the great report from Burlington.

I have tickets for Mantiouwac, Eau Claire, and Wausau (Oct 11-13). Three straight nights in Wisconsin for this Minnesota boy may be too much endure!

When I get back home, I'll give a set list and review for each of the three concerts. I'm hoping to hear "Home from the Forest", at least one of the nights. Never have heard that song before concert. Now it looks like I may get to hear Sweet Guinevere as well.

John/ Minnesota

Absolutely correct see
http://www.lightfoot.ca/780226.htm
I also read the Duluth review which said
" One was a song written for his children who live with his ex-wife in Europe"
Evidently an earlier airing of "If Children Had Wings"
