Lightfoot to Perform at Massey Hall - May 25-28, 2011
Earlier this week, I received in the mail a brochure for the 2010-2011 season at Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall.
The brochure indicates that Gordon Lightfoot will perform at Massey Hall on four nights in May 2011. The concert dates are from Wednesday, May 25, 2011 to Saturday, May 28, 2011. (I actually don't have the brochure with me right now, but I'm pretty sure that I've remembered the dates correctly!) The ticket prices continue to creep up (with most seats being sold for $85), but I certainly hope to attend one of the concerts. |

When I hear Massey Hall mention I always think of Gordon Lightfoot. Can he possibly be the artist that has performed there the most time. I didn't check it out but I think he may very well be ? Maybe it was posted here before ?

yeah, if going back to the 1890s, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra & Mendelssohn Choir but as solo artists go, I would think Gord has played there the most (and Don Jail the least, lol)

yup, straight from the Massey website:
"1967 Gordon Lightfoot begins a long series of annual concerts that will lead to the most solo appearances at the Hall of any performer." of course, first appeared in about 1950 but for regular runs annually or every 18 months for 4 or 7 nights, I wonder if he's played there 100x yet? |

The "Massey Hall Centennial" concert that took place on June 14, 1994 may not have been a regular Lightfoot concert. If it wasn't, Lightfoot has apparently put on 146 full-length concerts at Massey Hall since 1974. That is an extraordinary achievement! 1974 - 4 (Mar. 22 to 25) 1975 – 7 (Mar. 17 to 23) 1976 - 7 (Mar. 22 to 28) 1977 – 7 (Mar. 21 to 27) 1978 - 9 (Mar. 18 to 26) 1979 - 9 (Mar. 17 to 25) 1980 – 7 (Mar. 14 to 16 and Mar. 20 to 23) 1981 – 7 (Mar. 13 to 15 and Mar. 19 to 22) 1982 – 7 (Mar. 12 to 14 and Mar. 18 to 21) 1983 - 4 (Mar. 24 to 27) 1984 – 6 (Mar. 13 to 18) 1985 – 9 (Nov. 15 to 23) 1987 – 6 (Mar. 12 to 14 and Mar. 19 to 21) 1988 – 4 (Nov. 16 to 19) 1990 – 5 (Mar. 21 to 25) 1991 – 6 (Nov. 14 to 16 and Nov. 21 to 23) 1993 – 6 (Mar. 11 to 13 and Mar. 18 to 20) 1994 – 1 (June 14) – Massey Hall Centennial 1995 - 6 (Mar. 16 to 18 and Mar. 23 to 25) 1996 - 4 (Nov. 13 to 16) 1998 - 4 (May 6 to 9) 1999 - 3 (Nov. 11 to 13) 2001 - 3 (May 24 to 26) 2005 – 4 (May 18 to 21) 2006 - 4 (Nov. 16 to 19) 2008 – 4 (May 7 to 10) 2009 – 4 (Nov. 18 to 21) |

Pub Jams are probably going to happen again..Ron will be in town in a couple of weeks so will pass the word onto the boys at McVeigh's I'm sure.. right RJ ?? ;) |
Re: Lightfoot to Perform at Massey Hall - May 25-28, 2011
Yes, absolutely Char.
The pub jam gig has sort of developed into a bit of a tradition so a visit to the McVeigh folks definitely will be in order. The pints are great there as well so we'll give the "heads up" on the pub jam as we "down the hatch." Cheers, RJ. |
