I had a weird private message this morning from someone saying I didn't know them, but they knew who I was. They directed me to another site, which requires Java to open. Didn't open it and won't. The person's screen name does not appear in member list as either junior or senior member. Maybe nothing, but I didn't like the tone of the message, so as much as I enjoyed reading the forum and learning about Lightfoot, I'm gone.

that is a new form of spam, many of us got them. i have deleted the 'person'..

Now come on.

You're gonna leave a group just because someone sent you a spam message?

The only time I'd do that is if the mods aren't correcting the problem.

I had a couple of private messages just after I joined up a couple of years ago, but there haven't been any since. Got no plans to leave this site.

the SPAM isn't in the PRIVATE messages area.. it's in the CONVERSATION area of your profile page..

These things are going to occur from time to time for the rest of our natural lives...
Technology has its price - and we can only do so much to avoid predators.
They sit and giggle and marvel at their adolescent behavior that drives their unimportant existence...Completely harmless, powerless, and nobody pays any attention to them - and never will. True - some things are worth our concerns regarding our personal identity and security - but in my view - leaving for this reason (in this case) is equivalent to moving out of your neighborhood because some local prankster "doorbell ditched" you!

Hello 4windstrvlr,

Please do not leave this forum. If you are a Lighthead and love his music this is the place to be. I also got the same message and at first it was a little troubling. Then I realized it was spam and harmless to me if I did not respond. Our moderator Char, does a wonderful job of deleting the people who want to try to drive us away from our passion. Try not to let them win. You will be happier in the long run. Good luck with your decision. :)

hmmm.. in your PROFILE section is there a place to see CONVERSATIONS with others? not sure why some have it and some don't..

I just noticed a new member who has the following in their "About Me" section :

"Hi I'm Karl. I'm a private investigator. My job is to background check a person given by my client."

I'm thinking about becoming a client and have him check out our Moderator.

Yep that must be it...somewhere it says 'view conversation' if your visitor message is enabled...Maybe as moderator mine is different.
I have stated before that there is a lot of stuff I don't know about or know how to use.
I do know how to use the delete and ban functions tho.

I'm just guessin'. Maybe it's the Visitor Messaging option found here :

In it it states :

"This forum features a visitor messaging system that allows members to send messages to one another publicly."

Still no sign of a CONVERSATION area......

in the Visitor message section if there is a message there it gives an option to 'view CONVERSATION"..so I call it the 'converation area'..

I also just had a sudden thought, which is that perhaps the person or persons responsible for that sort of irresponsible baloney isn't perhaps a rival web site.
