New "Old Fans"?
Hope I don't bore you with this.... Was thinking about this lately and just wondering if any of you have come across this.
When I saw GL in Nashvile in March, I chatted with a number of people who told me they were long time GL fans, but have NEVER seen him before in concert. And these people were middled aged I guess... Late 40's to mid 50's.... When I was waiting in line to purchase the Akron concert tickets a few weeks ago, I struck up the same conversation with two men. Same age as me (mid 50's) and they had the same story. Never been to a GL concert before but have been long time fans. So, I am wondering what is making these people show up now? Especially in Northeast Ohio, GL has performed in this area MANY times. There was no excuse not to see him years before. As you know, GL hasn't had any hits on the radio lately.... hasn't been in the news much here... I just thought it was odd these people are going to see him now... Don't get me wrong. I think it is great they are going.... Just wondering "Why Now?" |

perhaps lives a little less busy, more expendable cash ... or thinking that perhaps they better get their butts in those seats before they miss out!

Re: New "Old Fans"?
A great thought young Wes
In a similar vein I too often marvel at the number of new members who drop in here and announce themselves as long time (say 30 years or so) fans then go on to proclaim that they have suddenly found corfid Same Old Loverman is one such who comes to mind... He told me in a PM that "I didn't find this site til late 2006" and that his favourite GL era was "the late 60s early70s" yet corfid was started wayback in 1999. No doubt some of these new "old fans" are like the new concertgoers recent converts to web surfers so that could be one major reason for this phenomenon |
Re: New "Old Fans"?
Perhaps they were preoccupied and attempted to see Gord in concert when their (Gords road and the concert goers road) never met.
Until my husband retired from the USAF we never mad it to any of his concerts. Trust me I tried to hook up but with children and living wherever he was sent we never had the opportunity until we got back to NE Ohio. What a streak of luck that life slowed down... Whew, First concert in Cleveland in 1994 and he spoke of a 6 week old baby daughter he left at home as he hit the road to come and perform for us... sure made my eyebrows raise. I am ever so grateful to be able to attend any of his concerts and now I think I am up to 25 or so that I have attended... |

Speaking only for myself;I've liked Gordys' music since I.Y.C.R.M.M.
Its only been in the last 4-5 years that I've really grown to LOVE it. Personally,I haven't had the money for tickets until last year, when I saw Gordy at the Chautauqua Instition. Its also something of a challenge for me to get TO the shows,as Gordy doesn't play near me very often.Keep in mind also that I don't drive, that make it tough for me too. patybear |
