New lyrics for Wreck

First of all...what is(are) the new lines. ??

I read in the paper what they were I my first impression was they don't fit.

..and of course i can't remember them now.

And... remembering Gords lyrics, of which there are many...for each song.. is difficult as it is... ya can't change them 35 years into the thing.

IMHO

I'm quite surprised that he sings them so eaily - I've heard them 3 times inthe last few weeks..
'at 7 p.m. the main hatchway gave in,
he said fellas it's been good to know ya'

has changed to:

'at 7 p.m. it grew dark, it was then,
he said fellas it's been good to know ya.'

He changed that line fairly fast like only he could, 'brilliant' imo !

Re: New lyrics for Wreck

Being a touter of the music of Gordon Lightfoot as a busker here in Vancouver I realized the importance of bringing up that new lyric the moment it was announced, and the reaction from audiences proved most interesting with nods of approval, thumbs up, etc.
"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is a necessary song as part of any Gordon Lightfoot show.
Sometimes folks just like to chat and tell stories about how Gord's music has affected them on a personal level.
It sure makes the day interesting not to mention the "pumping up" it gives me to keep it going.

Cheers, Ron J.

good to hear RJ!!
I called the Peterbough newspaper to get a copy of the review for Gord's concert last week. I asked for the Lightfoot concert review.
The woman (she didn't sound like she was very young) got a paper from the 14th and leafed thru it. I could hear her turning pages...
She then said, "is it the one with the picture of an old guy with a guitar?"
lolol
omigoodness...

Speaking of lyric changes......

I was listening to the '74 Seattle concert, and on "It's Worth Believin" the line

'There's a breeze from the shore
And the waves overlap
When I've called in the cat she'll go walking'

was changed to

'There's a breeze from the shore
And the waves overlap
Wally, can you check the pods(?), man ?

I don't think it works.

that is a great observation (or listenation, i suppose), rm!

yeah, something like:

There's a breeze from the shore
And the waves overlap
When I've called in the cat
Wally, will ya check the pods, man?

re: Partners...I do like the Jim Reeves (the golden voice) version:

YouTube- Jim Reeves - Partners

but do not like fade out endings at all

quiz time: are there any GL song recordings that have fade out endings?

Is that a trick question ?

There's a whole bunch of 'em.

Vocally speaking.......there's

Dream Street Rose
Summer Side of Life
Baby Step Back
I'll Do Anything.......and whatever else

Instrumentally.......

Gawd knows.

"Wally, will ya check the pods, man?"

Most likely trying to get the sound guy to tweak something without breaking stride...

Sorry, but the new line doesn't work. If he's saying "At 7 P.M. it grew dark...", I'd like to know where in the Great Lakes it gets dark at 7 PM in November--isn't it more like 4:30-5:00? I live in Massachusetts, and would love it if it stayed light out until then in November.

yeah, good point....but regardless, i would have liked to hear Gord's 2nd or 3rd choices if he had any....maybe the well really has run dry

it would take a few years (or lifetimes) to erase the original phrase from my mind

I wonder if he changed that because it was discovered a hatchway didn't actually cave in...

I know "That GOOD ship and true" was changed to "BIG ship and true".

Gawd knows.

'Only Love Would Know' fades off, but if you turn up the volume as it's fading, you can hear it end.

Some songs are 'fade-ons' (you don't hear them begin, they just gradually get louder). 'Approaching Lavender', and 'Baby It's Alright' to name a few.
