GG - Affair on 8th Avenue
I searched a bit and found a couple of threads about the GORD'S GOLD version of Affair on 8th Avenue, but nothing recent, so I thought I'd start up a new thread. Not so much as a discussion of the song, (for me, it's good but not one of GL's best) - but becuase I totally forgot about my desire to re-transfer the LP version to my computer after I got my nice new professional turntable for Christmas. A while back I temporarily posted a link to download my recent re-transfer of the 45 version of Bitter Green, and I thought I'd do the same now with Affair on 8th Avenue. Again, like on Bitter Green, if it was or even had been available as a commercial digital release I'd not be posting it. But for songs like this that have not seen CD issue, I don't feel bad about making them available. I need to have another go at the 45 remix version of Me and Bobby McGee sometime too.
incidently it was the photo I took to post here, of my GL record collection that made me remember to do this - I saw my Canadian pressing of GG that I had bought on one of my trips to Massey, from a store in Orillia, of all places. I don't know how many of you need a good MP3 version of the song, but if you do..... http://members.trainorders.com/andro...%20version.mp3 -Andy |

Thanks Andy, I agree it is not one of the best but I like 'em all (except Canary Yellow Canoe and DQ).

Re: GG - Affair on 8th Avenue
Thank you Andy. This is one of my favorite songs, and I was disappointed when it did not make the CD. Hearing it again brings back many memories of listening to it on my tape player, driving the miles away with my arm around my girlfriend (now my wife of almost 33 years) and singing along. Now I have it again, and I cannot thank you enough.

Thank you a lot, Andy. Why they couldn't cut one of the songs that was not a re-recording from the album I'll never know. (I wonder if there is a way to download this to a CD...) |

I assume that you already have downloaded the mp3 and that your computer sports a CD or DVD burner and that you have a blank disk. Now if you have a burner somewhere on your computer you will have an accompanying disc burning program the two most common are Roxio's Easy CD Creator and the German Nero "Burning Rom". so named because tada tada the Emperor Nero allegedly fiddled whilst Rome (Rom in German) burnt!! If you do not have these get the freeware program burrrn (yes three "r"s) from:- http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4 Press the err umm add button to gor blimey add the AO8A mp3 like this and then burn baby burn!! http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFOOT/images/burrn.jpg May I be so bold as to suggest that to make better use of the blank CD you also download if you haven't already Gord's versions of two familiar national anthems using the links I thoughtfully provided in my response two whole days ago to the thread on "boring national anthems" at:- http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=20764 OR you could rip the existing tracks from a Gord's Gold CD and then you can create your very own enhanced GG CD. IF you do not yet know how to rip the tracks from a CD, it's about time you did so google away |
Re: GG - Affair on 8th Avenue
Yeah, this song was a "skipper" for me too. Meaning, I would skip it whenever I was close to the controls.

Re: GG - Affair on 8th Avenue
Thanks Sir John. Actually, I've gotten a radio in which you can hook up an MP3 player (though unfortunately, no actual MP3), so I may just load it on that if I can't figure out how to burn it onto CD. I'll give this a go.
Andy, is it alright if I put the location to that website in my sig, that way those of us who want to give it a listen but can't/don't know how to load it can do so without having to dig this thread up? :) |
