Lightfoot and Tyson

TV special about Tyson aired tonight with a few minutes of time spent with Lightfoot. They sat and played/sang Red Velvet...
It was an intimate look at Tyson's life-the wives/music/cowboy life, ageing.
Syliva, John Hiatt, Neil Young were part of it, lots of candid moments and some nostalgic memories.
I spoke briefly with the two fellows who created the documentary when I was in Calgary last April and am glad I caught the show tonight.
Seeing Tyson and Lightfoot talking about their music and lives teared me up a bit but it made me wish that Gord would do a show like this...

Won't ever happen - doesn't like the focus on him but he doesn't mind the spotlight on buddies.

Re: Lightfoot and Tyson

he seemed uncomfortable with it being the "Tyson show" and a camera in his face so I imagine we'll never get him sitting down and spilling his guts like Tyson did about stuff. It really was a remarkable 60 minutes tho..he said he regrets the lack of communication with his relationships..and said to a young Canadian country artist, Corb Lund as they were riding horses around Tyson's property at the end of the show that he was glad to have seen his old friend Gordon Lightfoot who has some major health issues and who is also a bachelor. They are both , like so many others going through this part of their lives alone."
Ian said that the renewal of interest in him and his music was when Neil young did 4 Strong Winds and the cheques started rolling in and that allowed Ian to buy some property in Calgary and make "Cowboyography" - a great country album. (much like Lightfoot said about one of his songs letting him 'buying the farm') Ian told Gord that he really felt he had made it when he recorded Sundown. It was a mutual admiration thin going on with the two of them..both so humble...they had a hard time getting thru Red Velvet. Ian with the playing and forgetting some words and Gord hitting some notes...Ian found his guitar playing was because of the way Gord did it and said something about it and Gord said 'well that's the way it is on the record!"
lol
I rec'd an e-mail from the production company and they will be sending me info to order the DVD...it's well worth having.

char, not sure if you're referring to something that might have been on CMT or other, but this program was on Bravo the other night and repeats this Friday (worth recording) ...not sure if any DVD version would have extra GL/IT jam ot chat footage

you will probably be at hughsroom for the GL tribute...i can put it on 'non-crapola' DVD for you if you send me a reminder before departing...put your DVD dough towards a PVR or DVD recorder (cheaper now)

i didn't see much of the Tyson as I was recording the Globes award show in the hopes of later sifting through for more 2010 celebrity acceptance speeches, lol

I get a message saying 'this video is not available in your area'. I guess it is for Canada showing only.

I did watch this on Bravo last night & it is now in my DVD (video) library. Man that hour went by too fast. Makes you realise that we are all going down the same path in life... to eventually; 'the end of the journey'. And no one person has it really easy, but of course some more difficult than other... Haiti !

Tyson looks frail compare to Gord who also has his best days behind him. It was really good to see the 2 friends together again.

ahhhhhh must have been great to watch and especially performing together. Makes me think that they'll (along with Sylvia!) do the same at the Mariposa. Which I can't even give a thought to going to :(

http://thenavajomug.com/about.html

they need to add Red Velvet cake to the menu

flashback: i vaguely recall jamming with Ian's son (Clay, bassist) and the rest of the Look People, fronted by jaymz bee who now has a radio show on jazz fm

YouTube- LOOK PEOPLE: CRABBY LADY

i don't think Ian would allow that outfit on the ranch

the doc didn't get much into his son (from Syliva) or daughter from last wife

i thought Tyson looked good, I'd put my money on him in an arm wrestle with any other 75 year old, or most 55 year olds

btw, the segment with Wilcox... superb

Tyson looked good-strong for sure to be hauling hay like he did..he's a ruggedly handsome man-scruffy beard or not. There's still a sparkle in his eye.
Yeah - not much mention of the kids tho.
didja DVD it for me?

yikes! I liked the music, hated the outfit :p lol maybe Ian was the 1st to give that guy some weed too.

It's sad how so many performers have sacrificed family for their careers and in later years can only express regret, but sometimes are able to do what they can in the present time. For sure it happens to regular folk, but different of course and more of a challenge to juggle when work takes one away from home and homelife.

Several years ago -we were in Elko and I kept seeing this handsome dude running around all over the place and thought he looked familiar. At one point, I looked over to my right and saw him again and he gave me a wink and a nod. It wasn't until a few months later, I realized it was Ian Tyson.

Re: Lightfoot and Tyson

i'm trying out the capo approach more ever since there was a big thread about the pros (voicings) and cons (crutch)

from the musical accessory bin in the basement, i've dug up the chubb/shubb/schubb one and an odd stretchy kind that folks have left behind from practices over the years...but i'm going with the Keyser clamp type that Tyson's got going in the pic

it seems easier to keep track off...i clamp it on my nose when it's not needed for the guitar...bonus: it even kinda makes me sound like Gord;)
