massey hall setlist 18november2009

Massey Hall Setlist
Wednesday 18 November 2009
Ten years and one week since my very first Massey concert and what would have been my dear mother's 80th birthday, sadly she passed away in April 1999 and the money I then inherited paid for non free internet connection and hours spent in the chat room with my new friends Jenney and Susan a.k.a. Gordlover plus the wherewithal to venture to Toronto later that year to meet my future q the UK telephone charges of myself wife face to face GL
A quick review Gord came out fighting without the customary warmup although he admittted feeling nervous but later after commenting on the large number of concerts rthis year he loudly proclaimed that he was feeling "invigorated"
And later the audience gave him standing ovation whilst serenading him with Happy Birthday To You
Setlist accurately compiled using a mnemonic memory aid system thus:-
1 not a round bun but a Triangle
2 Did "Shoe" Mention My Name
3 a 14 Karat Gold plated tree
4"close that friggin' door" Never Too Close
5 (bee)hive a fashionable hairstyle when I were a lad
In My Fashion
6 (painter's) sticks A Painter Passing Through
7 The heavens opened Rainy Day People
8 Shadows (of a gate)
9 Beautiful wine from the vine
(route) 10 Carefree Highway
11 Cotton Jenny
12 Ribbon of Darkness
13 Sundown
(moot point) as usual the wrong way round since clearly it gets dark after a sunset not before the sun goes down!!
14 The Watchman's Gone
15 Alberta Bound
Intermission
16 The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
17 Ring Neck Loon
18 Don Quixote
19 If Children Had Wings
20 Let It Ride
21 As Fine As Fine Can Be
22 If You Could Read My Mind
23 Baby Step Back
24 Restless
25 Canadian Railroad Trilogy
26 Song For A Winter's Night
encore
27 Old Dan's Records

So Monsieur Fowles this is the way you told us a few years ago on how you write the set list. You know it ain't that bad, certainly does work for you...

Thanks for sharing John and your dear mother's birthday was the same date as my niece Lisa who lives in Montreal Quebec, have a wonderful time... :)

What a nice way to celebrate what would have been your Mom's birthday. Thanks for posting the setlist, John.

Re: massey hall setlist 18november2009

We had had a very pleasant drive up from New Jersey stopping overnight near
Scranton PA in a superb suite at The Residence by Marriott, that included free WiFi for my WiFi only Nokia N800 Internet Tablet and a "social hour' with sufficient turkey with stuffing mashed spuds salad and brownies plus free wine and a keg of beer. we reached Toronto by 2:30 and decided out of our three reservations to stay at the hotel that is closest to Massey Hall to save me the tiring walk down Yonge Street. We soon found that the plan was to dine at the Elephant and Castle at 5:30. We were unavoidably late because the Toronto Subway was closed after a tree planting machine had drilled too deep and punctured the tunnel roof, so taxis were in short supply.
I was very pleased to meet up again with "The Rez", last seen in Cerritos CA in April 2005,and I was especially pleased when he said he had been able to grab a torrent using my previous tutorial notes.I am in fact in the middle of writing a consolidated and simplified "Bare Bones" Torrent Tutorial, more anon
After the concert I told the Man that any concert that featured my personal two favourite songs (Let It Ride and Restless) was great for me
I am finishing this off on my Jornada 820 PC Companion (Handheld PC) after labouriously typing the setlist using the tiny on-screen keyboard of the Nokia N800 then saving it to an SD media card for pasting into corfid on the N800.
I had only posted the basic setlist last night because the file I saved did not contain these late additional notes
I had said I think I will leave it at that and let others add their own observations in particular The Rez who was beside himslf with excitement at being in the front row at Massey at last way to go Rex
Oh yes I have to tell you that the view out of our 13th floor hotel bedroom (no room for superstition here obviously!!) is filled with the roof and red doors of a well known Toronto landmark (I did say the closest to Massey Hall!!)
