GL Juno performance 1996 IYCRMM - lo quality

may try improve quality, audio is decent...just found in old VHS pile

it's the last time i remember GL having that WFY vocal tone, pre APPT

+ the last performance i'd taped from the Rankins w/the John Morris (piano)

(raylene was absent off raising family and/or studying law as i recall)

...rare moment when heather hit's a bad note...she looks shocked...cookie keeps dancing (is that 'dancing'? i think i dance like that, but folks laff)

anyhow, I don't think this GL performance is up on youtube already

...enjoy, these are two very Canadian musical moments...

Thank you for posting this. This footage was awesome. It reminds me of how when I saw Mr. Lightfoot this past summer there were those moments when he just looked timeless. Those moments like in Shadows when he sort of poses at the end and the lights go down and for a moment there is that silhouette of him and he looks just like photos I have seen from the 60's. The magic is alive and well, which is a good thing for those of us who discovered all of this more recently.

Thanks, jj, very cool.

I have to chuckle though. For years my family has teased me about my Lightfoot obsession. But whenever I open one of these gems (and today was no different) anyone who is in the house stops by to watch.

And the oldest, who no longer lives at home, borrowed a bunch of my cd's of various artists, to download into her computer...when she returned them, she said she needed to hold on to one more a little while longer...guess which one? Gord's Gold. She gave me an impish grin and said "see what you've turned me into???"

I love it.

And dunno, Char, kinda liking that baby smooth face too. Hmmm, tough choice.

And well they should.

Thanks for the frowny face emoticon to signify the "bad note". I would never have noticed otherwise.

Great stuff. Very clever. Thanks.

I found this footage on You Tube of the legendary Ian Tyson singing IYCRMM in honor of Mr. Lightfoot. Maybe everyone has seen it, but maybe not -- it shows Gordon looking very appreciative right at the beginning of the clip. I think this is around the same time as the clip that JJ posted.

Great looking & sounding performance, like Char I have this on VHS/DVD. Also have the Ian Tyson singing @ The Governor General Performing Arts Award for his friend Gordy.

Good stuff jj & Acadia.

glad you all enjoyed the post regardless of quality...i enjoyed your comments

acadia, that clip is same era about 18 months later...it's posted in the Misc thread in the GL Covers forum and elsewhere but my reaction is same: the first 5 seconds are the highlight of that clip! (taking nothing away from Tyson)

i should have posted this under http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=19316, i've violated my own rule:) for Jenn and any other newcomers, i hope they stumble on that thread, it still hasn't made it as a link to the homepage (yet there's a bunch of garbage links still on there, what's so special about the live8? maybe it generates revenue, if so, i'll hold my beef goin fwd:) )

i feel this GL look is the one that should have been used for the statue...it's the first time i remember him looking truly comfortable on TV ...the face is perfectly chiseled...either that of go back to the "Lightfoot" look, very Chuck Connors/Rifleman-esque

maybe he's growing out so he can go back to the afro/perm - anybody's guess

note: rm, i don't even dance THAT good...i think my intoxication and dancing days are behind me, they seemed to go hand in hand...foot in foot... a sad reality

those first few seconds as those first few notes play and seeing him seemingly so contemplative is lovely indeed JJ.
