young stuff on the road to Gord
Ok, ok it's true, I have not been getting out much lately.
Matter of fact, only time I run out is to go to the occassional Gord concert (and that's why I think gord needs to do more concerts!) . Well, long story short we have these 2 delightful grandgirls age 3 (on Canada day this year) and 4.2. So after the 2 year old turned 3 last week (partied with Chuckie---that's Cheese for the last name) we take her gifts up to her room and the next morning we are cooking breakfastl. The girls are up in their room (one gift was a microphone), and while making breakfast we had a tribute concert for Gord. They sang up every Gord song they knew... With frequent renditions of "In My Fashion" (which goes through cycles during every car trip "Grandma, turn on In My Fashion, please", then "Turn it up Grandma" once the volume is right for them, they start singing, "In my fashion..."). They sang several others as well for our morning tribute concert. "If Children Had Wings" always sounds like a group drunk fest though... man, being a Grandma rocks. They are going to be loving his music all their lives. They don't get the words right for any of the songs yet but it's still fun. So Mr. Stinson are you looking for some young backup singers for your gigs? |
Re: young stuff on the road to Gord
Hi Gwenagain! I've noticed, at least here in the concerts I've seen on the East Coast, about 20 young people (to me, under 40! - around 25-35, as a guess) who I noticed at the concerts and talked to regarding Gord's music. Some came because they grew up with his music, listening to what mom and dad enjoyed. Some have discovered him on their own. How great to see that his "base" fan group is expanding, and this from a musician who hasn't "dropped" a new album since 1994!

sherylkat, don't APPT and Harmony count as albums? I could be misreading you
love the anecdote and Gord jam, gwen!...my kid's first party (ok, there was just 3 of us, poor guy) was a Chuckie's when he was 3...we played games and spent I dunno how much to gather hundred of these ticket thingies and in the end were able to cash them in for stuffed thing that couldn't have been worth $1...lol...we had fun anyhow, btw, that talking Chuckie figure gave me nightmares in a Talking Tina/clown type of way...anyhow, last month he finally had a real 5th bday party with many JK friends on a nature hike (not every kid's idea of a good time, lol)...he asked for a big globe and got one, what a great item, i don't think i ever had one..you got me ramblin, it aint hard;) I'll have to run In My Fashion by the kid and see if it's a hit...the ones that he's taken to are Flying Blind (he's always asking questions about Jessie Joe lyrics) and Couchiching, he likes wading in that lake...anyhow, recently I heard Sundown on radio and said to him "hey, it's Gordon Lightfoot"....he said, "no it's not, well, it sure doesn't sound like him"....lol, I never realized that the tyke had basically been exposed to the 'current Gord' voice only i suppose Alberta Bound has to be the ideal traveling family singalong tune? |
Re: young stuff on the road to Gord
ii, No, APPT and Harmony don't count - HATED those albums!
LOL - now that I've got your attention and of course I love the above-referenced albums), I bow to your superior knowledge of the date of the last album, but the sentiment holds true - it's been so LONG since GL has "dropped" an album and yet his popularity is growing with the younger set! At least in years to come, when he strides out on stage he won't be blinded by bald pates and blue hair! Happy belated Canada Day....Sheryl (I found out on my recent trip I'm from "Cali", which I love!) |
Re: young stuff on the road to Gord

ps) i think you and others have me confused with jjo (jessie joe), that's not a bad thing...for me anyhow, lol |
