Westbury, NY 26-Jun-09
Gord played a nice set to an audience in the half-round. I think Gord's voice has got stronger since I saw him last August. He made brief references to Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawcet's passings after mentioning he was glad to be playing his 36th concert of the year.
Nice 'Spanish Moss' & 'Minstrel of the Dawn'... after doing 'Canadian Railway Trilogy' he said he was glad he can still squeeze that one out as it is a 'long song'.... he finished the night with a 'toe tapper' 'Black Berry Wine'... Onto 'Town Hall' in the Big Apple tomorrow... Night all. -John |
Re: Westbury, NY 26-Jun-09
We went to Westbury last night arriving in time after a fairly traumatic 4 hour drive that should have taken under 90 minutes during which we were several times delayed by New York City cops not letting us proceed towards the Queens-Midtown tunnel via 34th Street the directon route so we had to make an elaborate zigzag.I had hoped to meet Blackberry John there before the concert but just as well as it turned out, he presumably did not see my corfid Private Message. We did get a visit from islandgirl Dorothea,(the creator of one the memorable squares on our 2000 wedding quilt presented by our friends from the old chat room)
maybe I can catch B.John this evening at NYC Town Hall after the concert.I am tall white haired with a cane and will be with two ladies. The circular arena had a good third curtained off and the stage did not rotate, there were quite a number of empty seats. The audience were as usual appreciative, somebody behind me, who must have arrived. late three times yelled out for Carefree Highway (already performed), and an onbnoxious and pickled lady in the row in front of me insisted in producing annoying and piercing wolf whistles, it was a full 28 song setlist first half 1 Cotton Jenny 2 Carefree Highway 3 Sea Of Tranquility 4 14 Karat Gold 5 Never Too Close 6 Minstrel Of The Dawn 7 In My Fashion 8 A Painter Passing Through 9 Spanish Moss/10 Shadows 11 Beautiful 12 The Watchman's Gone 13 Ribbon Of Darkness/14 Sundown 15 The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald second half 1 Triangle 2 Hangdog Hotel Room 3 Restless I recall thinking that I would be quite happy if the entire setlist comprised this masterpiece over and over. As usual Gord deftly proceeded through the amazing verbal sequence of ironcast...ironclad...built to last... overcast.. 4 Clouds Of Loneliness 5 Waiting For You I think I heard Gord introduce this one as having been written on a west to east flight while returning home to his "first" wife, which would be chronologically unlikely? 6 Make Way For The Lady 7 If Children Had Wings 8 If You Could Read My Mind 9 Don Quixote 10 Baby Step Back 11 Canadian Railroad Trilogy 12 Song For A Winter's Night encore 13 Blackberry Wine |
