Remembering Red Shea
June 10th was the 1st anniversary of the passing of Gordon Lightfoot's lead guitar player extraordinaire, Red Shea.
Ironically last night he was in a dream I had which was just wonderful, with lots of greenery around, music, and a bunch of other stuff which happens in dreams which I can't seem to piece together, but it was all cool. Yesterday I went through all my Gordon Lightfoot songbooks as a sort of a refresher to try and retrieve some of the songs I used to play but needed some practice and in those books there are many very cool pics of Gord, Red and the gang in their younger years. That may have also have been a spark for the dream. In an article in The Globe and Mail written by Red's daughter, Colleen Elltoft, July 10, 2008, she says that Gord's song, "Minstrel of the Dawn" was inspired by her Father as it seems to have captured the playful life he possessed. "He loved telling jokes and had a new one every day." I always will love listening to his many lead guitar licks and one of my favorites is the very first one in "The Mountains and Marian." It can create a host of different images. Red Shea: He's the "Minstrel of the Dawn" and he's "Made his peace where highways never End." Keep smilin' Red. Cheers, RJ. |
Re: Remembering Red Shea
It doesn't seem possible it's been a year already, Ron...
I appreciated your comments, hope to hear you play some of the songs in November... :headbang: As I recall (from Vancouver), you have another reason that "M&M" is special! Take care, |
Re: Remembering Red Shea
Thank you Ann and it's good hearing from you.
Minstrel of the Dawn no doubt be one of the tunes that will be ready for the pub jam and from there we'll see what unfolds. Now if I can only convince my wife Marian to join me on stage for "The Mountains and Marian." One never knows where the good times can go. We'll shake 'em loose and let 'em roll. Cheers, RJ. |
