there's no Gord..I refused to vote!!
lol
(upon noticing that the list did not include Joni Mitchell or Lightfoot a letter writer to the Globe editor the other day wondered what the organizers had been smoking..lol)

I'm think Leonard Cohen's tune might win-folks love to sing that song!

Re: What!...No Lightfoot???!!!

what could me more Canadian that everyone singing and playing Stompin Tom's 'Hockey Song'? except they shouldnt be jamming at Dundas, it should be at Carlton, east of Yonge

folks like to sing this one too, here is a jam outside the Air Canada Centre before a Leaf game YouTube - Hasn't Hit me yet - Blue Rodeo

maybe too many cords for the average joe (or jim!) ...i dont think any could go wrong playing and singing a solid 3 chorder like Alberta Bound....i guess BTO's anthem is a solid contender if you look at it from that angle...(if they are going with the Hip, I would go with the Bill Barilko classic)

ps) Closer to the Heart by Rush, quite a playable oversight also

Neil Young's 'Helpless' named Great Canadian Tune in festival survey
By THE CANADIAN PRESS – 1 day ago

TORONTO — Neil Young's "Helpless" has been named the Great Canadian Tune after an online poll conducted by Toronto arts festival Luminato.

"Helpless" topped nine other Canadian guitar-driven tracks, with 3,701 votes from a total of 19,217.

Now, Luminato organizers are inviting the public to perform the song in unison at the city's Yonge-Dundas Square.

The goal is to break the Guinness World Record for the world's largest guitar ensemble, currently held by a town in Germany that saw 1,802 guitarists assemble to perform Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" in 2007.

The effort will take place on June 6 at 4 p.m. ET, with registration beginning two hours earlier.
