Need your Vote for Gordon

Hi Friends and Fellow Citizens of Gordonland.

I need your support and your vote. I recently visited the YouTube site that features the beautiful rendition of "Song for a Winter's Night" performed by the East York Choir.

The website is:
I added a comment below this video (under the name "tcquinn1") that reads as follows: "This is an absolutely wonderful rendition of this masterpiece ... I'm so glad to see a quality YouTube posting of this song true to the way Gordon Lightfoot recorded it, as opposed to other pop artists."

It appears that someone took exception to my comment and gave me a "thumbs down" on my comment, so we are trailing in the early election returns.

I'm asking, if you agree with my comment, to overwhelm the negative vote with lots of positive "thumbs up" votes on my posting. Please visit this YouTube link, log in to YouTube and weigh in by clicking the "thumbs up" icon next to my comment. Thanks for your consideration and thanks for your support.

My name is Tim, and I approved this message.

Hey, Tim...I gave you a thumbs up. Great version and I think it's very beautiful, too.
They have lots of good versions out there but this one is very nice and authentic to the original.

Oh - I got caught up so much in combatting the 'enemy' - I forgot to say that the York Choir WAS magnificent. Better than Sara's, I hate to say - she messed with the pace, the flow, and its sounds like she's fighting air-gulping...with such a beautiful voice, too... if only...she'd sing it traditional - liker 'er Daddy taught her - a friend of Lightfoot's - Murray McLachlan. Nana Mouskourri's cover of SFAWN is remarably good in this regard, too.

Murray is not Sarah's father.
He is McLaughlin. She is McLachlan.

Thank You Char, for helping seperating me from the wrong info :) I''ll be hanged - I'd always heard the friend of Gord's was Sara's father, not the
same, OK, I stand corrected. You know us Scotsmen -McTHIS MaCthat - whats the difference - if the story fits, tha's good enough lol

Anyway, Tim I saw the beautiful choir you spoke of, and you're right - they are indeed beatiful singers, and a faithful cover is almost ;) always a nice thing to hear.

I cast my thumbs up

Nana Mouskourri's cover was beautiful , too - of SFAWN

You know, too, especially with someone who is as good as Sarah McLauchlan, the pace experimentation is one thing...She

paid her money to cover it that way....I don't care for it, you don't Tim, but there are many ppl out there that DO - my

26 yr old daughter is one of em. I'll let YOU tell her why Sara's...is not up to par to a purist Lightfoot fan ! lol......

We have to have to have a bit of an open mind about this.... wait OMG - tortures are working.I am starting to to
to tttto justify them aaaaaagggh ! lol.. .

You know, two cover artists of Lightfoot's I like and bought their cover albums as well are:Tony Rice sings GL, Hoyt Axton - great voice....bought that one....

To sing Lightfoot as a man, you need IMO a good wide ranged baritone, capapable of some upper bass and some higher baritone as well. Thats not so easy - as so many men are being emasculated these days lol .....j/k

For a man. a cover works better if you are posessed of a wide ranging baritone I think...,- or whatever Gord's 'prime voice' used to be called in register...he could hit some low ones... and his higher notes were pretty good too- an amazing range when he was younger, sadly we have to let 'em grow old as we do...

We are well into positive territory on my comment. Thanks much for the "thumbs up" support! Great follow-on postings on this video as well. I hope this video never gets pulled from the You Tube site.

Take care, all.

lol, sure, Sarah is an east coaster (then west coaster) but no relation...Murray is playing with a few of his well-known pals in a group called Lunch at Allens...which I had today:) )

i actually love being introduced to different arrangements of Gord's songs ...Sarah's version actually seems to have inspired the latter half of this choral arrangement...sure, looks like a fun day and a suitable event title :) it doesn't mention what church this was at...i work in East York and will keep an eye open for this year's holiday event

yeah, Paul's work sounds great and is up in the mix...lovely colour added with his playing, shirt and vest:) when i try this one i'm all thumbs

anyhow, 2 big thumbs up!
