Rare (In America) GL album find!!
Friday (payday) on the 18th I went to a new (oldies/used) record store called Revolver Records in uptown Phoenix.
Along with some more of the LPs I lost in '06 I found a $2.00 but in greeat shape copy of instrumentalist Neil Chotem's "Gordon Lightfoot Instrumental Songbook"! :) I'm guessing this album is 40 years old because the songs he and his group cover are all UA. Softly The Gypsy The Way I Feel Bitter Green Long River Pussywillows/Cat*Tails Crossroads and more!! Ironically,Mr. Chotem passed away this past February and i do have 1 other LP by him, which I actually bought for it's cover. What an awesomne find this is! ;) |

Re: Rare (In America) GL album find!!
Thanks Jess. :) Surprised the heck out of me too.
Thought I'd found a rare studio album by Gordon for a moment. Then I'm like,"Oh hey, this is cool too". Wouldn't pass that up for anything.....even a Mariah Carey album! LOL! |

OK this is not that rare a vinyl album. it very often is on offer on ebay. Indeed right now although there are no private sellers there is at "coolforever"'s Ebay store a copy being offerred admittedly at rather more than Mr Sober Rodent's bargain find:- http://cgi.ebay.com/NEIL-CHOTEM-LP-S...2em118Q2el1247 this contains a nice image of the attractive album sleeve:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFO...ghtfoot_lp.jpg there are in fact several albums of instrumental versions of Gord's songs but IMHO they all have one glaring fault that makes them in the end pretty boring: they do not have any lyrics. Another such is by the "Mariposa Reeds":- http://cgi.ebay.com/CANADIANA-MARIPO...2em118Q2el1247 http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFO...s/mariposa.jpg Plus one that I bought back in 1988 in Ottawa:- http://cgi.ebay.com/JOHN-ARPIN-Love-...2em118Q2el1247 http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFO...John_arpin.jpg One instrumental CD that I do have is Tapestries http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFO...tapestries.jpg somewhere I have a larger image than that but I know it is on an external hard drive that I am unable to access right now because my desktop insists that that drive containing nearly 40 GB worth of valuable (to me anyway) archived files requires formatting which I do not for one moment accept However whilst trying to find it on line I did find on amazon.com:- Tapestries The Music of Gordon Lightfoot Perry Novak & Bob Volkman with Ernest Lyons (Author) which turned out to be not a book but the same audio cd on offer by used_cd-universe for an optimistic $50.00 I bought my copy on Yonge Street on November 1999 at Sam The Record Man's emporiam |

Very unusual John, on my cover, the brown paint is over to the left more, not in the center. The left side has a pinkish hue to it as well.
(and some dumb bunny's initials!) |
