One minute of this good song, written by the late, "Hamilton Camp."

Re: Pride Of Man !
That was the version that got a lot of airplay, yes. You should listen to Hamilton's version too. As I say on my Lightfoot web site, Gord's version captured the feel of the original, while adding Gord's unique singing and playing style. The QMS version was quite another matter!
When I told Hamilton that his song was getting a lot of attention because it seemed to apply equally to the 9/11 tragedy, he was quite moved. He had no idea! You can listen to a clip of Hamilton's original recording on his web site on the Paths Of Victory album page: Paths of Victory album That early album is quite something, with no fewer than 7 Dylan songs, many of them not yet recorded by Dylan (some were never recorded by him), as well of Pride of Man, and Hamilton's cover of Get Together. Get together was written by Dino Valenti of QMS, and as Hamilton told it, they "traded" songs and that's how each recorded the other's classic. Hamilton's recording of Get Together, while not the popular version, is the one included in most folk song anthologies. |
Re: Pride Of Man !
That is such a powerful song no matter who sings it.
I don't remember hearing it before so Gordon's version is the only one I know. I think he gives it such intensity and depth and I prefer it over the Camp version. |
Re: Pride Of Man !
Gordon does a fantastic version of "Pride Of Man," which I have since that LP came out in the late 60's. Hamilton Camp was indeed a great writer. :)

Re: Pride Of Man !
It certainly has a timeless message.
We humans always seem to have something to fight about with someone, somewhere. |
