First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

Not a bad version though I like Cad Michell's version better.

Several artists have done covers of this song, but I have heard only Gord's cover and Johnny Cash's cover. I thought Gord's was the better.

Gord sang this song live on TV in the late sixties. It probably was CBC. It was written by Ewan MacColl. I'd never heard it sung before until I'd heard Gord's version and it's my fav. His voice comes through in such a mellifluous way that the song could have been written for him. It sure would be a treat to be able to view this if there is any way it could be retrieved from the TV archive, if it's still there.

Very nice.
Gord has an ability to make songs his own. Some other "artist" could do this song and it would not come off as an extension of their standard style. Gord is in his "own" singing this song. Good stuff.

I was surprised to learn that Me And Bobby McGee, Pride Of Man, and Red velvet were not written by Gord.

(They said Johnny Cash had the ability to make other songs his own as well. ;)

I just love this. The song really highlights the rich tones of his voice and the vibrato WOW.

Roberta's rendition..I've always loved and always will, of course. But the more I listen to Gord's and take in his interpretation, I'm finding more in it that I like.

The video does great in bringing all this out for me too -nicely done.

I'm getting flashbacks on this. When the topic was posted I started playing along with the recording and really got into it pretty good. The outfit he was wearing on the TV show if I'm not mistaken is the same one that's on the cover of the "Songbook " collection. Red shirt with the buttoned down collar, dark pants, necktie and vest. Yep, that's it! RJ.
