cant locate song lyrics..
Hello I am new today, and I am a big fan of GL.
I have been trying to find the name for one of my favouite songs, maybe this forum can help me. Some call it the wedding song. I cry everytime I hear it because it makes me think of my life now and the man that I share it with.. He thinks its Amy's song. The acustic guitar is beautiful, but I cant think of any of the words.. old age I guess lol. I am at a total loss right now.. very emotional. anyone that can help I would really appreciate it M |

Hello Maureen... I am thinking that you probably mean "Annie's Song" by John Denver.. it is often played at weddings. Check out the lyrics here: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/john+de..._20073319.html

It isn't a Lightfoot song, but it is wonderful nevertheless. Stookey is Paul from Peter, Paul & Mary. PS: Found the lyrics (and guitar chords) here: http://members.cox.net/billandleann/wedding.htm |

Wedding Song - (There Is Love) -Paul Stookey - 1971
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part. The union of your spirits, here, has caused Him to remain For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name There is Love, there is Love. A man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home And they shall travel on to where the two shall be as one. As it was in the beginning is now and til the end Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again. And there is Love, there is Love. Well then what's to be the reason for becoming man and wife? Is it love that brings you here or love that brings you life? For if loving is the answer, then who's the giving for? Do you believe in something that you've never seen before? Oh there is Love, there is Love. Oh the marriage of your spirits here has caused Him to remain For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name There is Love, there is Love. Annie's Song - John Denver You fill up my senses like a night in the forest, like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain, like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean. You fill up my senses, come fill me again. Come let me love you, let me give my life to you, let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms, let me lay down beside you, let me always be with you. Come let me love you, come love me again. You fill up my senses like a night in the forest, like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain, like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean. You fill up my senses, come fill me again. |
Re: cant locate song lyrics..
Char,
Thank you for the lyrics! Both of those songs never fail to bring a lump to my throat and tear to my eye. |
Re: cant locate song lyrics..
Funny you'd post those lyrics Charlene,Ijust heard it played two nights ago on a rerun of "The Wonder Years" where Kevin's "flower child" sister gets married in a "peaceand love" ceremony. :) Quite touching.
Of course,I have that song as well and it never fails to move me,even after all this time. :) |
Re: cant locate song lyrics..
If it's a song by Gordon I'd say it's "Beautiful"
|
Re: cant locate song lyrics..
Yeah but I bet most marrages eventually end up like the Wreck of the Ed.Fitz
|
Re: cant locate song lyrics..
WHile BEAUTIFUL is a fab wedding song (I had it at mine and 28 years later The Wreck was more suitable..lol) Maureen was looking for a song with "amy" or a 'wedding song' and the John Denver song is "Annie's Song" and the other is a song title "The Wedding Song".. Beautiful doesn't fit the criteria she supplied us with..but I'm sure it brings her to tears as well!
lol ;) |

Re: cant locate song lyrics..
Hey, Maureen,
hang around a while. The folks here are friendly. I've been off the boards for a while, myself...my satellite Internet provider doesn't do newsgroups, so the only way I can reliably connect with other "Lightheads" is to appear here. For everyone else in Gord-land, it's been a very busy summer. Child #3 graduated from high school, wife finally got her teaching license, and i spent a lot of time in West Virginia, starting up a large project. Hello to all! -Gary Oh, yes, maureen, if you are searching though old threads, and see a "sputnik"... yup, that's me. |
Re: cant locate song lyrics..
Are you Bill's Gary? Who used to come into the chat room on occasion? I think Bill played with you at a function that your sister put on? Are you the same guy?

Re: cant locate song lyrics..
Funny thing, I had both The Wedding Song and Annie's Song sung at my wedding, and we're still married. Welcome to the board, Maureen!

Re: cant locate song lyrics..
A very militant feminst I know objected to the song due to the line, which she viewed as sexist, "Woman draw her life from man and gives it back again."
Although I initially agreed, I pointed out that it could be viewed as a reference to marital love, sex and childbirth. However, in that case, the better lyric would be "new life" instead of "her life," so I sing it, when I do, with my change. If Elvis can change "can" to "might" in EMR, and if Gord thinks Elvis was right in making the change (Gord does), I say that the song is meant to be used, sung, and adapted as necessary. |
