A Minor Ballad

Hello:

I am on a business trip and while driving all day I listened to the UA double-disc set. "A Minor Ballad" has got to be one of the best songs ever written and recorded. The words are poetry and the voice creates a sense of beauty which is so lacking in today's pop culture. IMHO...

Take time to read such poetry!

Beyond the wild misty mountain
Within the valley so free
There dwells a maid with a heart so mellow
Soft as the wind and wild as the sea
When will you love me
As I love thee

I have no gold to give her
Nor gowns of soft crimson hue
Nor poems of love no rhymes to bring her
Into my heart so strong so true
When will you love me
As I love you

Beyond the wild misty mountain
Within the valley so free
There dwells a maid with a heart so mellow
Soft as the wind and wild as the sea
When will you love me
As I love thee?

If you look under the archived threads, 9-13-05, there is a "showdown" between "A Minor Ballad" and "Message to the Wind", with comments from several of us. I stand by my statements.

I must say, that is a beautiful piece. I do believe that if it weren't for this site, I'd forget what real poetry is, and this piece is really great stuff.

I still like "Message To The Wind" more but "A Minor Ballad" is very nice too. My friend Lisa heard it and thought it was corny. :D Of course she's 10 yrs younger than I. ;)
