Re: video test

Very well done Herr Bodens to demonstrate how to show one of Tom's exquisite videos.
As Restless has now been my all time favourite Lightfoot song since he performed it live at Massey in November 1999 I thoroughly enjoyed the reminder of the great StonewallStudios Vistorys
from the Niagra Falls resident who I had the extreme pleasure of meeting in his Stonewalled Studio last November.
When at the the end I saw the yahoo video search buttom I jumped at the chance to search.I also found Tom's celebration of Char and the November jollifications set to my probable number 2 Lightfoot favourite the wonderfully evocative "Now And Then"

So I thought I would try my hand at linking to it here and now so to speak using the method /syntax used by the worthy man from the banks of the Blue Danube
http://www.huz.org.uk/images/site/danube.jpg
The Blue Danube as seen in Buda-Pest
If that works you can click on the 640 pixel wide version above to see the original on
http://www.huz.org.uk/?categ=3
which is a whopping 1994 by 1496 pixels (enough to drive poor Tucson Ron apoplectic)!!
huz's caption there is:-
"Even so, here it is. I developed a brand new and exciting technique for taking pictures in Budapest, which involved not touching the camera at all, instead relying on magic to take the photo. The result is night shot that isn't horribly blurry."
the picture's "title" (mouseover) tag says
"The Blue Danube! Looking blue, and also dark."
OK Florian I know that is not the Danube in Vienna but it is such a nice photo especially full sized.I plumped for that grossly oversized picture as it should demonstrate the wonderful automatic resizing feature now included in the new Bulletin Board program
If you'd rather show a picture of tne Danube in Vienna itself Florian then perhaps knowing the potential views better you could do your own google image seach??
OK here is my first attempt to embed a Yahoo video which I would like to reliably do Now and Then to coin a phrase:-I had seen that video of Gord's new friend before but had not hitherto been able to catch the other two from Tom's Massey "Trilogy" so here is APPT:--
and here is the third one which I strongly cionsider very succinctly captures the atmosphere of the Saturday jam session and includes a few brief studies of yours truly:-

One thing I fail to understand,as a handicapped slow 56K dial-up modem surfer/sufferer,is that although the videos as seen in the Yahoo viewer appear to be of similiar quality to videos seen on youtube, the intolerable buffering delay which leads to viewing a video in short segments is notably several orders of magnitude less pronounced and annoying on yahoo as compared to youtube.
is that what other dial-uppers feel too??
And I found it interesting that there is a tempting "save video" button on Yahoo videos but all that does is favorite it not actually to download it to ones hard drive
To do that one must try my tutorial at:-
http://www.youtubetutorial.notlong.com
OK OK I know that I badly need to do some revisions to that as the last download program I recommended (youripper) sufferred a similar bout of unreliability to the previous two (youtube grabber and you sucker) that I had previously tried and recommended,Meanwhile I have been sucessfully using itube
(right click on that download link) for a while which not only downloads the flash video file with a meaningful simple filename such as songmiusicvideo.flv but also after download converts it to an mpeg-4 format video that will then play (sometimes hazily) in the Apple Quicktime player if you have it installed on your PC),(Mac addicts can smirk here OK) although I have now managed to persuade Windows Media Player to get off the pot and install an flv format plug in. However I still prefer to use the SUPER © Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer all-can-do video conversion freeware to convert a FLV format file to a VCD and DVD friendly mpeg-1 or-2 respectively format file but I have recently found more freeware at:-VDownloader to evaluate as it promises:-
"VDownloader allows you to download videos from Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, MySpace, DailyMotion, Pornotube, and many other similar sites, saving them in AVI or MPG format." Funny (I think not!) it includes "Pornotube" but not Yahoo,
And moreover I have seen that there is a Firefox Plug in which I think also promises to convert a downloaded flv to mpeg-1 and/or 2 format
Therefore more(re-)searching is required because a simple and obvious google for"download yahoo videos firefox" yielded nearly 9 million results at least one of which entails a Firefox plug in the form of a Yahoo toolbar.
Anybody out there sorted it out for themselves yet??
Never a dull moment here I can tell you
This has been yet another Public Service for Psuedo-Geeks announcement from
"Sir" John Fowles Bt
Sincere apologies if some of you have found this long winded and over technical, but I feel strongly that Florian has made such a splendid improvement to the forums that new features such a these should be investigated understood and used. Besides it has taken me many hours to get all the links above fully correct and working together at the same time so that the large picture gets reduced and the Yahoo player box as shown by Florian appears correctly for all 3 videos I selected. You'd be amazed at how often a preview showed one or other of my desired features misbehaving.
All I ask in return is that if you have read this you try to say something encouraging in return, if only to ask for clarification. Thank You

Re: video test

OK boys and girls time for a little geography and politics lesson.
regarding Budapest (Hungarian ['budɒpɛʃt] is the capital city of Hungary
Firstly Three towns—Pest, Buda, and Óbuda—combined in 1873 to form the capital of newly autonomous Hungary. Hungarians use the nickname “Pest” to refer to the city.
I discovered that Pest is the larger part and forms the east of the city
so after consulting this little map
http://biega.com/buda-c.jpg
I deduced that in the beautiful, large river view I displayed before Buda is on the left and Pest on the err umm right.
Similarly in this other nice Buda-Pest by night picture
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...stnight100.jpg
(No I do not know what happenned to Obuda either perhaps he became a terrorist or even a US Presidential candidate??)
Sorry I get so confused !!
