interesting analysis and comparisons between EMR and Leavin On A Jet Plane..

Video clip links are to Lightfoot singing EMR in Reno and Denver's song accompanying clips of troops leaving on war missions etc.

Interesting assessment of these two songs. Have often thought of the similarites between the two, but could never get my arms around just how they were different. Thanks for the links.

Interesting comparisons and theories presented there. My feeling is that music is a very personal thing, and it speaks differently to each individual who hears it.

What we read into a song, and how we interpret its meaning, is usually colored by our own personal life experiences and perceptions. I do not think it reasonable to assume we know for sure exactly what a writer is thinking or feeling when they pen a song...we can only know for sure the responsive (or nonresponsive) chord that song may strike within ourselves. A song may go straight to the heart of one listener and they are forever changed by it, while another may hear the same song and be moved very little. And that is a part of what makes music such magic, I guess.
