I don't know about anybody else but I am fascinated by the existance of all sorts of shortcuts and tips
The current issue of the US Computer Shopper magazine contains the revelation that you can usefuly use the expesssion "in" in a goggle search. the example they gave was getting the equivalent Imperial pounds conversion of US dollars like this:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/...ars_pounds.jpg but it also works for other currencies such as:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/...an_dollars.jpg and many other conversions such as:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/temperature.jpg Anybody else wishing to contribute their pet dodges be my guest [ March 13, 2007, 12:03: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |
I've always typed - 'dollars to pounds', centimetres to inches', celcius to fahrenheit' etc. in the GOOGLE search bar..

I was very pleased to see at least a response to my topic http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/Tutoria...p_logo_500.jpg Amazingly yesterday the local mailman managed to stir himself and got around to delivering the March 1-14 copy of my UK Web User magazine.(because unlike the UK. mailmen over here obviously do not start their round until relatively late in the day (sorry Paul in MN aka Mr Mouse) and also the delivery period from the UK is highly variable so I decided not to renew my hard copy subscription but instead take advantage of the great zinio digital magazine service, which is not only far quicker: the next issue dated 15-28 March which goes on sale in the UK tomorrow actually arrived yesterday. but also far far cheaper. my 52 issue digital subscription came out at USD$48.99 compared to their postal rate of US$151.60!! The digital version uses the superb zinio reader which has page turning and zooming and the index works a treat. If you have never seen this in action then click on this link to see a free sample of the magazine and the zinio features:- http://www.zinio.com/express2?issue=185060728 You might have to download the free zinio reader. (As I already have it I cannot tell if it has to download) OK I know that reading on the computer is not as convenient as having the actual magazine but there are compensations, not least of which is that all web site references appear as hyperlinks and there is the abilty to readily make screenshots see below on the magazine website http://webuser.co.uk/ you can see what the content of the current issue is including a review of the nokia 800 tablet that I featured in another topic:- DSR's video player at:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...c;f=2;t=001338 http://www.webuser.co.uk/products/No...view_3579.html Anyway zinio now offers several digital magazines see:- http://www.zinio.com/ to get back to my topic in the March 1-14 issue there were a slew of useful http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/tutoria...s_And_Tips.jpg including:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/tutoria..._wikipedia.jpg and:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/tutorials/freeware.jpg the link in that tip is:- http://321download.com/LastFreeware/ However those were easily eclipsed by a reader's tip on using the File properties/summary facilty to store relevant information about the files provenance with the file itself You what?? Here is an example for the youtube "dambusters" video that I featured in my topic on British comedy at:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...c;f=2;t=001339 http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/images/dambusters.jpg I was so impressed that I have written a web page on this tip http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/tutorials/file_summary.htm OK OK now let's see some tips from others here please [ March 13, 2007, 13:25: Message edited by: johnfowles ] |
Keep 'em coming John, you may not get many responses since a lot of people do not read the old Test Forum.

John, Actually, I am fascinated by the fact that I can get online at all. But, one has to consider the source of this email and the screen name(s), at least three on this site, but not to try to fool people....only because I had forgotten who I was. Duh!!!   :( But thank you for all the info that you have given and continue to give us. What is contained just in your post here and those following it, should just about fill up the rest of my life. LOL! P.S. - Cannot get into your chat room again, but my husband is promising to bring home a new and improved computer soon. :) |
