One of my favo(u)rite folk singers was the late Tim Hardin. Now largely forgotten
he wrote a number of great songs before dying from a heroin overdose in 1980 at 39 (vintage age-the same as a number of female readers here like Bruna/Silverheels!!!)

His best known songs are obviously "Reason To Believe" (wonderful early Rod Stewart hit)and "If I Were A Carpenter" hit for Bobby Darin indeed Darin's album of that name

As far as interest for this group goes Tim was probably one of the group together with another late great (Phil Ochs) that our hero hung about with in New york in the 60's.
I once talked to Gord about the "first time ever I saw his face" which was at the New Penelope coffee bar in Montreal in 1967
and Gord recalled it well and told me that lots of folk singers played there "including Tim Hardin"

Bobby Darin has been a long time fav. He sure evolved during his short career. With and without his "hair" and tuxedos. I have seen some clips of the Keven Spacey movie Beyond the Sea, I can't wait to see the movie.
I am embarrassed to say that I don't really remember Tim Hardin athough he looks familiar. Did he make the rounds on shows like Johnny Cash Show or Glen Campbell Show (yes I watched that too!)?

Since I gave away your age in 2005 Bru I guess that makes you 42 now shame!!
I am so very pleased that my old thread has been resurrected as this time I searched youtube and was not disapointed:-

Now here is an interesting twist having previously reported that one
of the late Bobby Darin's albums was mainly songs by Tim
(well 5 out of 11 were including of course the title track)A further search for Tim on youtube produced the opposite Tim performing a Darin penned song:-

Incidentally I recorded that BBC radio broadcast on Tim that I referred to in my initial message (which was superb) and having burnt it to a CD I gave a copy to Gord soon thereafter and the next time I was priveleged to speak to Gordon he told me that he had enjoyed it.
