One of my favo(u)rite folk singers was the late Tim Hardin. Now largely forgotten
he wrote a number of great songs before dying from a heroin overdose in 1980 at 39 (vintage age-the same as a number of female readers here like Bruna/Silverheels!!!) There is to be a special broadcast on BBC Radio 2 by "whispering" Bob Harris featuring Tim at 2130 - 2230 next Saturday 5 February 2005 which will thene archived so that you can"Hear it for seven days after broadcast on the BBC Radio Player".see:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/...imhardin.shtml I still have two of Tim's vinyl albums http://www.tctv.ne.jp/members/m-site...ages/tim03.jpg http://www.tctv.ne.jp/members/m-site...ages/tim09.jpg The "live" album TH three and TH Nine and once I tame my computer to digitize vinyl TH3 is way up there on the list to be C-Deed His best known songs are obviously "Reason To Believe" (wonderful early Rod Stewart hit)and "If I Were A Carpenter" hit for Bobby Darin indeed Darin's album of that name http://www.bobbydarin.net/darincarpenter.jpg features no less than five Hardin songs. As far as interest for this group goes Tim was probably one of the group together with another late great (Phil Ochs) that our hero hung about with in New york in the 60's. I once talked to Gord about the "first time ever I saw his face" which was at the New Penelope coffee bar in Montreal in 1967 and Gord recalled it well and told me that lots of folk singers played there "including Tim Hardin" John Fowles prosecutors are often court posers in whose conversation often voives rant on [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited February 01, 2005).] |
Bobby Darin has been a long time fav. He sure evolved during his short career. With and without his "hair" and tuxedos. I have seen some clips of the Keven Spacey movie Beyond the Sea, I can't wait to see the movie.
I am embarrassed to say that I don't really remember Tim Hardin athough he looks familiar. Did he make the rounds on shows like Johnny Cash Show or Glen Campbell Show (yes I watched that too!)? |

I am so very pleased that my old thread has been resurrected as this time I searched youtube and was not disapointed:- Tim Hardin at Woodstock Next I shall search for a "torrent" so that hopefully I might have in due course a CD version of at least one of the vinyl albums I have not played since 1999. |
Re: Tim Hardin 1941 (a vintage year!!!) -1980
"If I Were A Carpenter", what a great song. First time I heard it was by Johnny Cash. Thanks for posting this beauty Jean le loup. I will add it to my favorites at You Tube.

Re: Tim Hardin 1941 (a vintage year!!!) -1980
Now here is an interesting twist having previously reported that one
of the late Bobby Darin's albums was mainly songs by Tim (well 5 out of 11 were including of course the title track)A further search for Tim on youtube produced the opposite Tim performing a Darin penned song:- Ok not proper video but well worth a listen as of course is this inimitable Scotsman singing Tim's "Reason To Believe":- Incidentally I recorded that BBC radio broadcast on Tim that I referred to in my initial message (which was superb) and having burnt it to a CD I gave a copy to Gord soon thereafter and the next time I was priveleged to speak to Gordon he told me that he had enjoyed it. |
