Thirty-seven years after the original project disintegrated, Brian Wilson has re-recorded and released his Beach Boys' mysterious, magical SMILE.
I dreaded this moment, believing that Brian would mess it up. (Much of his solo output has been questionable.) But I'm happy, HAPPY, H-A-P-P-Y to report that the album is wonderful, WONDERFUL, W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L!!! My eyes are actually tearing up as I listen to SMILE--it's that well done, that moving, that surprisingly stupendous. Thank you, God, for a year that has seen the release of both HARMONY and SMILE, both created under difficult circumstances and both wildly surpassing expectations. Wow. I can hardly breathe, but my smile is wide. ------------------ And I will always love that sound until the day I die. |
wow. that is certainly a resounding endorsement. I'll have to check it out.
Brian Wilson is a stupendously talented musician. Amazing that he was able to come out with this after all his personal trials. God is good http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
so silly that these artists must re-record old stuff.

My term "re-record" is misleading.
Much of the original SMILE concept album was recorded, in varying degrees of completion, but this is the first time that all of the material, including many never-before-recorded missing links, has been brought together as a whole. Artists re-recording old material usually leads to failure, I agree, but this is a different matter altogether. SMILE truly is a supreme achievement. |

I agree whole heartedly! I'm listening to "Surf's Up" from that album right now. It's not for all tastes, but well worth checking out!
