well, I did it again today. Gave another foot (for the men in the group that is 12 inches) to the needy... kids with cancer, that is and the foot I gave was hair. I had to wait almost 2 years this time to give...I must be getting old as swamp water (mumble mumble mumble).

Yes and locks of love will have another donation in the mail today. I have donated two times before... as I'm getting older the old hair doesn't want to cooperate with the timeframe of getting this stuff cranked out. I am glad you and your daughters have donated too. It seems trivial when one thinks of all the suffering these young people go through, yet, I am glad to help. You must have some pretty healthy hair too.

Yes, my new 'do is a worthy cause event and it does mean so much to me as I am sure it also means to you and what a great lesson to teach your girls. My daughter was a Senior in high school the last time she gave and like you hers was done past her waist, now she doesn't have the time or patience to care for long hair. I grow mine simply because it grows fast and I hate to take time at the beauty shop (or now known as the "spa"). I am glad to know that you are such a caring person. Tender hearted people are who appear here on this site most frequently...guess we all must belong to the group for Gord and being compassionate as his songs are compassionate to a large degree.

What do they do with the hair?

Auburn Annie 08-27-2003 06:34 PM

From the Locks of Love website:

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
We meet a unique need for children throughout the United States by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

Bravo Gwen and Oma and daughters! I think what you're doing is wonderful.

thanks Formerly Lavender and thanks Oma. I think everyone should donate something of themselves (and not just organ donating after your gone). It is a nice thing to do and so simple.
