in all the years Lightfoot has put out records, have their ever been any songs that at the beginning that have the sounds of the guy or guys behind the controll panels saying 321 take 1 or whatever? i can give tou a couple examples of songs where i've heard that. Grand Funks RRD's closer to home has the band getting ready and the gut saying take something. there's a rare Steve Miller song called your cash ain't nothing but trash witch at first he just says the song title, then you hear a take 4 from the guy behind the control panel.

Can't say I have heard anything, but I've heard Gord do it live a few times.

|

Sometime's your gut needs to get your attention and will hurt or pang, which in a sense your right, it is saying something. miketouhy, how would we ever hear someone's gut during a performance? Why would you want to? That's getting kinda personal don't you think? |
you guys are such jokers...
I didn't know someone says "Take ___" for song recordings but you never know... |

No. For one thing, Gord is too much of a perfectionist to let that happen. He'd demand a retake. Secondly, at Grant Avenue, the sound guys are in another room, looking at the artist through a large window. They talk to the artist through an intercom. I don't recall the people at Grant saying, "Take one...take two." They just said, "Whenever you're ready." Cathy http://www.cathycowette.com |

[B] [QUOTE]Originally posted by miketouhy: guys behind the controll panels saying 321 take 1 or whatever? OK as nobody else has yet mentioned it there is one such instance that I know of I guess the guys in back in 1965 in New York were not as laid back/sophisticated as their present day Grant Avenue equivalents!! On the "New York remake version" of my original favo(u)rite "Spin Spin" (on the Bear Family "double album plus bonus" CD Gord first says "Alright it's just a matter of everybody listening" then one of the recording guys has the guts to say " all right Spin Spin take 16" then Gord clearly intones "1.2,1.2" John Fowles Avenue Road? No thanks; the old one's still okay. [This message has been edited by johnfowles (edited October 25, 2004).] |
what the sound guys say on intercom can get picked up on tape depending on the mic type/ setting, well, and if the tapes running, lol...
ya might think it's neat to have on a final cut i suppose but would imagine the novelty wears off and there could be regrets in hindsight (as with the Cabaret 'pop') ...i get a chuckle out of some of the stuff done during 70's recordings, pretty 'whacky' at times, eh http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif |
I love the Cabaret "pop" - it's the perfect segue.
